Need Some Groceries?
Unless you plan to eat out for every meal during your holiday, you will need some groceries - at least for the first day or so.
If you just need a few essentials, i.e. enough for an evening meal or breakfast the next day, tell us what you'd like and we'll have it waiting for you when you arrive.
Alternatively, if you want more than a few items, you can place an order on-line with ASDA for your groceries to be delivered at a time to suit after your arrival. Our local ASDA is 11.5 miles away in Ashington but they are happy to deliver to Warkworth. You will need the postcode and specific address for the cottage you are booked into which will be provided to you once your booking is confirmed. Once you have this, click HERE to place your order with ASDA.
We do have smaller stores nearby if you wish to wait until you get here to buy your provisions:
In Warkworth, the Village Store, located in the centre of the village, sells all of the essentials like milk, groceries, wine, newspapers, etc. as well as a good selection of local produce. Opens early but closes around 5-5:30pm (varies according to the time of year)
The New Barns Farm Shop in Warkworth (signposted from the village centre) sells wonderful home-grown and locally produced meats, pies, cheeses, etc., as well as having a good tea room and restaurant.
In Amble, 1 mile to the south of Warkworth, A medium sized supermarket is located at the top of the high street and a small Co-op is to be found at the bottom of the high street. These are both open a little later, the Co-op is open until at least 8pm. Amble also hosts an interesting Sunday Market on the fish quay every Sunday morning.
In Alnwick, 8 miles to the north of Warkworth, there are several food shops including a large Sainsburys, a Morrisons and an Iceland. Alnwick is well worth a visit for it's interesting shops, the unmissable Barter Books and of course Alnwick Castle - famous for being the setting for many Harry Potter scenes along with the multi-million pound Alnwick Castle Gardens, which has the largest tree house in Europe. The treehouse also houses a very good restaurant where live jazz music is often performed on Sundays.
In Morpeth, around 15 miles south of Warkworth off the A1, there is a large Morrisons and, for Marks and Spencer fans, there's a small M&S foodstore. Morpeth is well worth a visit for being a really good, historial market town with some interesting shops and eating places as well as a wonderful park alongside the river.
