All About Lesbury
Lesbury is home to Throstle Cottage, a beautiful and cosy Georgian cottage built around 1750 and perfectly situated in the conservation area of the village. Lesbury is located close to Alnmouth and midway between Warkworth and Alnwick. The village sits on the banks of the river winding River Aln and is a pleasant 1.5 miles walk or 5 minute drive to the sea. There are three delightful walks to Alnmouth beach, the shortest taking just 15 minutes. Alnmouth is just 5 minutes drive, where there is ample parking just yards from the beach. There is a small selection of good pubs, restaurants, cafe's and shops in Alnmouth, as well an excellent art gallery, housed in the old School House, where original art, depicting the local coast, countryside and beyond, can be purchased.
One of the walks to Alnmouth village from Lesbury takes you through the highly regarded 18 hole Foxton Golf Club, which is open to non members. Howick Hall, the home of the famous Earls of Grey (one of which devised the now world famous Earl Grey tea) is less than 5 miles away. Craster, famous for its smoked kippers is just a bit further up the coast, followed by the beautiful Embleton bay with Dunstanburgh castle at its southern end.
The delightful village of Warkworth is just 4 miles south of Lesbury, where there is a range of good pubs, restaurants, cafes and quirky shops and art galleries. The magnificent castle is fascinating to explore and there are lovely riverside walks, where the River Coquet encircles the village before meandering out to sea.
Throstle cottage is three doors away from the locally renowned Coach Inn, which serves delicious meals in hearty quantities. Just a few yards from the cottage is a traditional village store and post office. Alnwick is just 10 minutes North, where there are numerous fine restaurants, the famous book store Barter Books, Alnwick Castle and the world class Alnwick Garden and Treehouse.
Eating out
There is just one pub and restaurant in Lesbury, but fortunately it is one of the best pubs in the whole of Northumberland! The Coach Inn is just around 75 yds from Throstle Cottage and as well as serving fine ales, including speciality Northumbrian Ales, the restaurant is really quirky and interesting and serves excellent quality food. People travel from far and wide to dine there and their Sunday lunches are especially good.
Where to Shop
There's just one shop in Lesbury, the Village Post Office and Store. It's just a few yards from Throstle Cottage and sells newspapers as well as a small selection of groceries and other essentials.
