The location was perfect for us. We appreciated the very high standard of accommodation. We had a wonderful first holiday in Northumberland and hope we can return again sometime. Eileen West

Tips from a local

Visit Warkworth Castle, an impressive medieval ruin in the centre of the village which dates back to the 1100s, and is now looked after by English Heritage. The history of the castle and village is fascinating, and with its spiral staircases, towers, and lawned grounds to explore, the castle provides an excellent afternoon out for all the family, just a 2-minute walk from the cottage.

Tips from a local

Visit Bertram’s in Warkworth. This cosy, welcoming, and dog-friendly Bistro Cafe in the centre of the village is perfect for a hot chocolate by the fire through the winter months, or for a glass of wine out in the sun-trap patio garden. Breakfast is particularly good, it’s a treat to dine out for breakfast on holiday!  The menu is fantastic with all dishes made on-site, or sourced locally.

Tips from a local

Take a walk along the estuary to Amble Fishing Town. Just over a mile from Warkworth, Amble offers stunning coastal scenery around the marina, harbour, and pier. A browse around the pods in the Harbour Village is a great way to spend an afternoon, visiting local artists and independent shops, with a stop off at The Fish Shack for a bite to eat in the authentic dining hut.  The view of Warkworth from Amble Quayside is particularly spectacular – a great photo opportunity.

Tips from a local

Visit The Running Fox at one of its locations in Northumberland and try its famous afternoon tea which consists of a cheese or fruit scone, a slab of pie or quiche, a choice of sandwich, and a slice of delicious cake, washed down with either tea, coffee or upgrade to a glass of fizz! Be sure to book in advance as this artisan bakery books up pretty quickly!

Tips from a local

Druridge Bay has an unspoiled coastline stretching as far as the eye can see. With amazing, rugged dunes, the area is superb for birdwatchers, walkers, and anyone wanting to breathe in the natural beauty of Northumberland in a peaceful, relaxing setting.

Jodie and Chris Tyrrell

Owners of Wren Cottage

We asked Jodie and Chris, the owners, what made them fall in love with Wren Cottage:

“We first discovered Warkworth and the breathtaking Northumberland coast in 2011 when we came on our first family holiday with our baby boy. We just couldn’t (and still can’t) get over how enchanting this place is. We make new, special memories each time we visit and will never tire of the beautiful beach walks.

We hope, like us, you’ll love it here and want to come back again and again….but let’s keep it as our little secret!”
