Riverside - Comments from our Visitors' Books

Our visitors' books are great to read through over a cup of coffee or glass of wine and provide a wealth of recommendations on the best places to eat and visit, as well as some useful tips to benefit other guests. Many guests have listed recommendations for the same lovely places, such as Warkworth Beach, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Barter Books, Holy Island and the Farnes, for example, but for the sake of avoiding repetition here, we have omitted many of these recommendations, but they can still be read in full in the visitors' books in Riverside.

Here are some of the comments kindly left over the last few months:

"Have just returned from a week at Riverside and wanted to say a big "Thank You" for such a beautiful cottage in such a fantastic location. The cottage was amazing, spotlessly clean and the welcome pack was much appreciated. All the little extras, such as the binoculars to look out over the river, dog treats, etc., made the whole visit really special. Warkworth itself is gorgeous and we had many happy hours on the beach with the dog. We have posted a review on Trip Advisor and would be very happy to recommend Coquet Cottages to anyone. We very much hope to return in the not too distant future!" Anne & Clive Cooper.

"We have had another great holiday at Riverside. The weather was not great but it didn't stop us doing any of the things we wanted to do. Please thank Mr and Mrs Hardy as the house was immaculate, we loved the flowers and all the other thoughtful gestures. We can think of nothing to improve that house. We will be back." The Gilroy family.

"Just to say, we have stayed at some wonderful accommodations in the world and this place definitely ranks up there with some of the best. What a treat to go on holiday and feel like you've arrived home!! Thank you so much for all the extra little touches, which just all add up to a truly excellent stay! We're just deciding when we can come and visit Riverside again!!" Sam, Jim, Isabelle, George and Biscuit stayed April 2009.

"Never sure what to write in these things! So will simply echo the comments of those who have been before us - Wonderful location, Lovely property, Attention to detail (roses, toiletries, etc.) - makes all the difference. We'll be back!" The Cavanagh and Charles families stayed April 2009.

"Where do I start? The house is beautiful, everything has been thought of, I would say it is equal to 5 Star hotel standards. We were here for a short break as part of my 50th birthday celebrations and the special touches of the chocolates and card from Phil and Lynne were lovely and then a birthday card arrived on Saturday from Julie, how did she even remember it was my birthday?! We have had a lovely time and will definitely be back! Thanks again Julie, Phil and Lynn." The Stobbart family stayed March 2009.

"Had a great week. The house and location are excellent. We have seen a seal on our walk to Amble. Bamburgh beach is amazing. Thanks for letting us use your lovely house, we will be back soon." Matthew, Julie and Lily stayed March 2009.

"We have had a great time. The cottage is lovely, in an ideal setting. The weather has been very kind to us so we have enjoyed walks on the beach, flying the kite and Alnwick Gardens. We enjoyed lunch at The Hermitage Inn and The Treehouse (Alnwick Gardens). We had a day at Bamburgh - beautiful beach and lovely village. Thank you for providing us with such a lovely place to stay." Emma, Ben and family stayed March 2009.

"Great cottage, I would recommend it to everyone. Lovely pubs - The Hermitage does fab Sunday lunch. Many thanks." Eleanor, Steven and family stayed Feb 2009.

"Great cottage that is very well equipped. Lovely views aswell. We all loved the area and so did the dogs! Thank you for a fantastic, relaxing holiday - we are definitely going to be back!" Sue, Nick, Charlotte, Will, Meg, Buster and Marris, Feb. 2009.

"The moment we arrived and saw this lovely home we relaxed and our holiday began. What a lovely location - the views from the house, the village, the surrounding countryside and extremely friendly people. We felt it was a trip of exciting discoveries; Cabosse in the village was delectable, Treehouse was magical, but to be honest just relaxing at Riverside was all we could ask for. We did spend time this week planning our next trip and can't wait to come back". Sue, Dave and family, Feb. 2009.

"Lovely cottage - everything you need is here, Thank you for the extra touches. Will certainly come again." Trevor and Julie, Lincs, Feb 2009.

"Absolutely lovely house - lots of very thoughtful touches - a true home from home. We had a great time - our dogs loved Druridge Bay! Fab views from the house, particularly when the weather's good. We will definitely be recommending Coquet Cottages to all our friends and family. Thank you again for letting us stay in this beautiful home." The Smerdon family, Norfolk, Jan. 2009.

"Our second visit to Warkworth, even more enjoyable than the first. Riverside is absolutely superb with all the little touches and flourishes that really do make all the difference. Thank you very much for the flowers, cake and wine. Weather was kind throughout our stay, during which time we visited Alnwick and Gardens. Lunch at the Treehouse every bit as good as previous visitors have said. Very good meals out also enjoyed at the Castle Hotel at Bamburgh, Masons Arms at Warkworth. The mining museum at Woodhorn is excellent as were the beaches at Druridge Bay and Warkworth. Walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle fantastic. Very much hope to return again in 2009." The Johnstone family, Leics, Jan 2009.

"Our first visit to Northumberland for a post-festive long weekend. Very impressed with the house and especially its location - stylish, yet comfortable and warm! Bamburgh - beautiful beaches and views to take your breath away. Took the previous comments and had Sunday lunch in the Alnwick Treehouse and walked the fantastic gardens - all not to be missed. Coach Inn at Lesbury had great food for great value and friendly ambience - even on a cold winter night. Good variety of shops in Morpeth. Enjoyed our trip to Holy Island, but bitterly cold wind in January so wrap up! Warkworth itself is just lovely, especially dressed up for Christmas. Thank you Lynn and Phil and especially Julie at Coquet Cottages - brilliant website and organisation. We'll be back!" Karen and Fran, Yorkshire, Jan 2009.

"Had a wonderful 2 weeks in a very beautiful house. We have been to Ross Sands, quite a trek to get to but certainly worth the wait. Had champagne on the beach on Christmas Eve. Newton by the Sea is where we saw our first seal. Had a very good lunch in the Hermitage in Warkworth. Walked for miles on Druridge Bay, at last we managed to tire the dogs out! The butchers shop in Bamburgh is excellent, had a superb loin of pork for New Years Eve. The weather has been very kind to us, no rain. New Year's Day was fabulous weather, we walked almost to Alnmouth on the beach. Met some lovely people, all with dogs, can't wait to come back." Lesley, Lucy and Christian, Dec 2008.

"Just a short note to echo what your other guests have said. We came here for a restful winter break - and we got it! The cottage facilities were excellent and all the extras - DVD's, magazines, bubble baths, roses on arrival, biscuits, etc. etc. made our stay all the more memorable and special. We would recommend the Treehouse at Alnwick - delicious food, if a little pricey - but a real treat. We ate at the Coach Inn at Lesbury -very friendly people, lovely atmosphere, good food! Topsy Turvey restaurant in Warkworth - Christmas theme - we wore our Christmas hats and got into the swing of things - great fun! Our only disappointment was that the Post Office had run out of Craster kippers - we are on a "kipper trail"! The walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle was beautiful. Walk past the golf course and to Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club, where you can have a coffee and walk back on the beach - fantastic! Thank you for a fabulous few days in snowy Northumberland". Mike and Jane, Dec. 2008.

"What a fantastic long weekend. Outside crisp and even, inside toastie toastie. It was lovely to go out and come back to a cosy warm house. The walk to the beach was lovely. Lunch at Topsy Turvey - food glorious, but book! Visit to the Treehouse at Alnwick for lunch worth a visit, book there too! The walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh lovely, wrap up, then stop at Lesbury, The Coach Inn (recommended in pub guide), very homely but contemporary pub. We didn't see the owl, but heard it! Will definitely be back. Lynne and Phil you have a lovely cottage and thank you Julie for all your help and welcome when we got here." Rhona and George, Nov. 2008.

" We have enjoyed a relaxing holiday in this cosy, comfortable, well-equipped house. Great views - although we didn't see the seal or owl! Nice to meet the owners Lynne and Phil. Locals also very welcoming and friendly. Very lucky with the weather - arrived in hail storm but rest of our stay was bright and clear. Excellent for beach walking. Enjoyed excellent meals out, particularly at The Jackdaw in the village, excellent food. Treehouse well worth a visit, especially for lunch. We appreciated the fresh roses and all the other special extra touches. Thank you!" Donald, Lorna and Ishbel, Nov. 2008.

" Beautiful cottage, lovely location. Very rare to find somewhere that takes dogs which is so high quality. The fluffiest towels ever (which fabric conditioner do you use?) We didn't want to leave. NB. Sunday lunch at the Alnwick Garden Treehouse a must." Julie, Stephen, Lynn and Mark, Nov. 2008.

"A most relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Magnificent views and we had fabulous weather. Great beach walks which we and Bob thoroughly enjoyed. Lovely cottage and facilities. We ate in and enjoyed really fresh, locally caught fish. Looking forward to our next visit." Richard, Ellen and Bob (the dog), Hereford, Nov 2008

"Thank you for the use of such a beautiful house! Everything was absolutely fabulous! The views, the walks, the beach and scenery were very enjoyable. Most of all the peace and quiet was fantastic." Lee and Irene, Nov 2008.

"Just a note to say thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful house. The views are fabulous, even managed to see a seal swimming up the river. Everything was perfect. Thank you for the welcome pack, much appreciated and once again, thank you Julie for the lovely cake!"
