Riverside - Comments from our Visitors' Books

Our visitors' books are great to read through over a cup of coffee or glass of wine and provide a wealth of recommendations on the best places to eat and visit, as well as some useful tips to benefit other guests. Many guests have listed recommendations for the same lovely places, such as Warkworth Beach, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Barter Books, Holy Island and the Farnes, for example, but for the sake of avoiding repetition here, we have omitted many of these recommendations, but they can still be read in full in the visitors' books in Riverside.

Here are some of the comments kindly left over the last few months:

“House, location and amenities all perfect. ‘Finishing touches’ made the welcome on our first day great, and set us all up for a wonderful week. Made all the better by scenery, warm weather (except 1 day – which we can live with) Our 5th stay and there will be more! Sat here watching the swans and we don’t want to go – always a good sign. Many Thanks.” Diane, Stephen, Nicola and Andy & Jess the dog. July 2011.

“Accommodation, welcome basket, scenery, hospitality, friendliness of locals – superb. Weather – typically English. We have had a lovely time. Thank you.” Barbara Griffith & Family. June 2011.

“We have had the best of times. You have genuinely exceeded our expectations – and that is not easy to do! We have never felt so welcome anywhere. The basket of goodies was lovely and something for everything – from birthday gifts to the family pet – lovely personal touches that got us off to the best start. A lovely house with everything we could need. We have been to Warkworth before and loved it even more this time. We will be retuning. Many Thanks.” Steve & Sally. June 2011.

“Great house, great location and great views. The attention to detail is beyond expectation. The whole family enjoyed this relaxing holiday and we will return.” Ray & Angie Tough and Lisa, Richard, Ella & Alice Burns. May 2011.

“Beautiful house, very comfortable and perfectly located – both to view the wildlife on the river, and as a base in which to explore this very beautiful and interesting part of England. Although the weather was a little mixed, we managed to do most of the things we had planned to do – Hadrian’s Wall and a trip to The Farne Islands (grey seals and birds a plenty) We also had the pleasure of speaking to Lynne on the phone and meeting Phil personally (the owners) – lovely people. Thank you. We will definitely be back.” Andy, Jo, Barbara & Simba. May 2011.

“Very impressed with this lovely, luxurious “cottage”, which seemed to be equipped with absolutely everything we could think of – and more. Spectacular location – saw a duck with 15 ducklings and a heron, but sadly no others. Hope to sample all these delights again soon! The flowers and basket of goodies were very much appreciated. Thank you.” Sue & Bob Baker, Judy Acton. May 2011.

“We have really enjoyed playing on the playstation on Harry Potter during the evening, thank you.” Sophie and Matthew. May 2011

“Our first visit as a family to Northumberland, and what an amazing place! Beautiful accommodation and very presentable. “Another relaxing break at Riverside. What a beautiful house in a lovely setting within an interesting wee village. The attention to detail in the house is one of the things that brought us back and we weren’t disappointed.. a real “home from home”. We also went to Zecca’s and the Treehouse – both a gastronomic experience and of course the wonderful Cabosse. We have experienced Warkworth in winter and now in spring, we now need to plan for summer and autumn!” Sue, Dave, Rhianna, Josie, Jean & Dave. April 2011.

Thank you very much for the flowers, cake and wine. Weather was kind throughout our stay, during which time we visited Alnwick and Gardens. "Our first visit to Northumberland for a post-festive long weekend. Very impressed with the house and especially its location - stylish, yet comfortable and warm! Bamburgh - beautiful beaches and views to take your breath away. Took the previous comments and had Sunday lunch in the Alnwick Treehouse and walked the fantastic gardens - all not to be missed. Coach Inn at Lesbury had great food for great value and friendly ambience - even on a cold winter night. Good variety of shops in Morpeth. Enjoyed our trip to Holy Island, but bitterly cold wind in January so wrap up! Warkworth itself is just lovely, especially dressed up for Christmas. Thank you Lynn and Phil and especially Julie at Coquet Cottages - brilliant website and organisation. We'll be back!" Karen and Fran, Yorkshire, Jan 2009.

Newton by the Sea is where we saw our first seal. Had a very good lunch in the Hermitage in Warkworth. Walked for miles on Druridge Bay, at last we managed to tire the dogs out! The butchers shop in Bamburgh is excellent, had a superb loin of pork for New Years Eve. The weather has been very kind to us, no rain. New Year's Day was fabulous weather, we walked almost to Alnmouth on the beach. Met some lovely people, all with dogs, can't wait to come back." Lesley, Lucy and Christian, Dec 2008.

"Just a short note to echo what your other guests have said. We came here for a restful winter break - and we got it! The cottage facilities were excellent and all the extras - DVD's, magazines, bubble baths, roses on arrival, biscuits, etc. etc. made our stay all the more memorable and special. We would recommend the Treehouse at Alnwick - delicious food, if a little pricey - but a real treat. We ate at the Coach Inn at Lesbury -very friendly people, lovely atmosphere, good food! Topsy Turvey restaurant in Warkworth - Christmas theme - we wore our Christmas hats and got into the swing of things - great fun! Our only disappointment was that the Post Office had run out of Craster kippers - we are on a "kipper trail"! The walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle was beautiful. Walk past the golf course and to Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club, where you can have a coffee and walk back on the beach - fantastic! Thank you for a fabulous few days in snowy Northumberland". Mike and Jane, Dec. 2008.

"What a fantastic long weekend. Outside crisp and even, inside toastie toastie. It was lovely to go out and come back to a cosy warm house. The walk to the beach was lovely. Lunch at Topsy Turvey - food glorious, but book! Visit to the Treehouse at Alnwick for lunch worth a visit, book there too! The walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh lovely, wrap up, then stop at Lesbury, The Coach Inn (recommended in pub guide), very homely but contemporary pub. We didn't see the owl, but heard it! Will definitely be back. Lynne and Phil you have a lovely cottage and thank you Julie for all your help and welcome when we got here." Rhona and George, Nov. 2008.
