Sunny Cottage - Comments from our Visitors' Books
Our visitors' books are great to read through over a cup of coffee or glass of wine and provide a wealth of recommendations on the best places to eat and visit, as well as some useful tips to benefit other guests.
Many guests have listed recommendations for the same lovely places, such as Warkworth Beach, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Barter Books, Holy Island and the Farnes, but for the sake of avoiding repetition in this particular format, we have omitted these recommendations, but they can still be read in full in the visitors' books in Sunny Cottage.
Here are some of the comments kindly left in our visitors' book in Sunny Cottage:
"Just wanted to pass onto Julie and her staff that we really enjoyed our stay in Sunny Cottage (21st May to 28th May) and we couldn't have arrived at a more perfect time - the hottest day of the year so far. This is our 2nd visit to the region but still found plenty to do and see and the cottage is in a great location for getting about and also with the variety of pubs in the village we didn't have to go far for a lovely meal but we really did love The Coach Inn in Lesbury in fact we went there twice it was go good so hopefully we might come back one day and stay in one of your lovely cottages again".
" We have had a super week in Warkworth. Tim really enjoyed running the Coastal Race from Beadnell to Alnmouth, the rest of us have enjoyed all the coastal walks. Present Time shop in Warkworth great for presents for grandchildren. The new Grace Darling Museum in Bamburgh is well worth a visit. Thanks for a super break." The Stothard family, Broughton.
"A great cottage and a wonderful part of the country. From Alnmouth to boat trips to Puffin Island to Bamburgh Castle to Holy Island. There is more than enough to enjoy come what may with the weather. If you like reading you really should visit Barter Books in Alnwick. A lovely holiday." Robert, Becky and Harry, Yorkshire
"This was our first visit to Northumberland and we have had a wonderful time. Alnwick Castle and Gardens are great and there is plenty there for younger children, We have also really enjoyed our trips to the beach and our visit to Whitehouse Farm. The cottage has been delightful and a great place to return to at the end of each day. Eleanor has particularly enjoyed all the Disney videos and books. I think we will be buying a copy of 'Lady and the Tramp' when we get home! We shall certainly return here, there is so much more for us to see and do. All in all an excellent holiday." Shelagh, Jim and family, Huddersfield.
"Whitehouse Farm Centre was great fun with lots of cool animals, I had a taratula and snake put on my head! I also enjoyed Pot-a-Doodle-Do and Cragside House. I went quad biking and did painting at Cragside House. There is loads of places to get wet so bring your trunks." Jack, 13, Ely.
" We had a fantastic week. Sunny Cottage is a superb place to stay and relax. There is so much to do and see that we found it difficult to fit it all in! Warkworth beach is brilliant, the walks and view so exhilarating." Trevor, Natalie and Zoe, Suffolk.
"We have had a lovely week in Sunny Cottage. Weather has been excellent. Warkworth is beautiful and there is plenty to see and do in the local area. We hope to be back soon and would love to stay in Sunny Cottage again. Thank you for all the treats, wine, etc. Our blind dog Meg enjoyed her dog treats very much." Barry, Hilary and Meg, Tewkesbury.
"Only 2 weeks this time, but thank you for the wine, cake. etc. Jaspers Coffee Shop and Sandwich Bar in Amble quite a change for Amble, lovely food and pastas. Unfortunately they close at 4pm, a bit early for dinner but ok for lunch. Back in September for 3 weeks at Hotspur Cottage." Janet and Derek, Rotherham.
"We have had another enjoyable week in Warkworth, one of our favourite places in England. Looking forward to our return in November and we will be back next year and maybe bring some of our grandchildren." Mary and David, Bradford.
"Very enjoyable week at Sunny Cottage. Lots to do. Have been extremely lucky with the weather. Found the cottage very homely. Wine was much appreciated after a long 7 1/2 hr journey! Would definitely recommend to friends and family." Haynes family, Oxford.
"Another great 3 weeks in Sunny Cottage, thanks for the wine, cake, etc. Woodhorn Colliery Museum good, will go again. Glad to see Sainsbury's open in Alnwick, good parking there and much better than Morrisons. The Coach Inn at Lesbury still our favourite eatery and Charlies in Amble for fish and chips. Don't want to go home but will be back again in June." Janet and Derek, Rotherham.
"We have enjoyed a happy week here at Sunny Cottage. We found it very welcoming when we arrived on a rather misty afternoon. We appreciated the biscuits and drinks and also the flowers. Ben was delighted with his doggy treat. We have had lovely walks as the weather has been kind to us. We are very fond of Warkworth and hope to return again next year." Gwen, Susan and Ben, Whitley Bay.
"We have enjoyed a super week here at Sunny Cottage. The weather has been fairly kind to us and has not stopped us doing any of the things we had planned. The added bonus was coming back each day to the comfort and warmth of the cottage. Just like home from home. We have visited some wonderful castles and Harry has enjoyed flying his kite on wonderful Warkworth Beach. Thank you for the wine, biscuits and flowers, they were very much appreciated and Harry enjoyed his sweets. We will certainly be back again." Nigel, Julie and Harry, Ripley.
"We have had an excellent time in Sunny Cottage. It was very homely and we will certainly return. Thank you." Kim, Kerry and Josh, Stockton.

"We all had a lovely stay at Sunny Cottage. It was comfortable and warm with lots of things to do and see like Alnwick Castle and Gardens. There are lots of nice places to have lunch in Warkworth, we liked Topsy Turveys and The Hermitage." Ross, Julie, Katie, Richard and Lottie the Jack Russell.
" An excellent weekend with a great trip to Alnwick to the Gardens and the Tree House is amazing. Best walk was here to Alnmouth and back. In Warkworth, the walk around the river to the old Hermitage is lovely, it's not open until 1st April, but looks a fun trip in a little boat. At the last moment our puppy went to stay with friends so missed out on the beach - next time! Warkworth is a hidden gem of a place - we will definitely recommend you to friends and family and will come back ourselves." Jo and Andy, Lincoln.
" Enjoyed a lovely, relaxing week here, the coastline is fantastic! Would recommend Kielder Forest and if you love picking around bookshelves then pop into Barter Books on the way into Alnwick - varied titles, coffee and jazz - great!" Steve and Louise, Wirral.
"Just like everyone else who has written in this journal, really happy and impressed with Sunny Cottage and Warkworth. Considering this was the week where storms were hitting the vast majority of the country, we have had sunshine. We've had great meals out at Topsy Turvey's and The Hermitage. Lindisfarne (Holy Island) is a must, the scenery is wonderful, as is all of the coastline. We did park up and attempt to walk to Holy Island but it's a lot further away than you might think, so unless you have enough time to beat the tide, don't! Loved Rothbury, The Fishermans Inn at Boulmer. Well we're going home really chilled. Would I come back to the North East? YES, Would I stay at Coquet Cottages? YES, Will I recommend Coquet Cottages? YES!" June and Steve, Wilmslow.
"The silence was wonderful and the cottage comfortable and well equipped. The weather has been extremely kind to us and we loved the walks on the beach. Great day out at Bamburgh Castle. Very enjoyable break." Annie, Nottingham.
" Thanks for making our stay in Northumberland so comfortable. We love the house and the village of Warkworth. We based most of our days out on the walks given in the 'Walks on the Northumberland Coast' book we found in the cottage - all highly recommended. Thanks again." Elizabeth, Simon and Geoff, Cumbria.
" We had a lovely time in your beautiful cottage. We really enjoyed the walks on the local beach. We definitely recommend you go to Charlies fish and chip shop. Thank you for the sweets you left for us. My parents were pleased with the cottage greatly, it is a shame that we only had 3 days in your cottage as we would have liked more time. Our dog really loved our morning walks at 7am on the local beach. Thank you.", Beth, 13, Tom, 11 and Alistair, 1, plus Mum and Dad, Lincoln.
"We have had a wonderful time - so lucky with the weather - it really has been 'Sunny' Cottage for us. Patch has loved running on the beach at Embleton, Warkworth, Druridge Bay and Boulmer. Thomas and Martha enjoyed Alnwick Gardens - spending hours in the bamboo maze. Debbie found the birdwatching superb - saw goldeneye, mergansers, wigeon, grey plover - as well as the regulars. We found the cottage to be cosy, welcoming and very well equipped. We have already booked again! Thank you for everything." The Eldridge family, Sheffield.
"Had a great time in your magnificent cottage. Relaxing, castle viewing and beach walking. Warkworth must be the best Northumberland location. Visits to Bamburgh, Seahouses, Embleton, Dunstanburgh, Rothbury and Amble. We will definitely recommend your cottages/houses to all our friends and look forward very much to coming back soon. Kingsize bed was great, enjoyed the DVD's also. Would also recommend The Hermitage Inn, meal was excellent. Couldn't get my wife out of The Greenhouse. Most enjoyable midweek break, might bring the golf clubs next time." Kate and Kevin Ayscough, Harrogate.
"We had a super time in a beautiful location. The cottage truly is a credit to you. We found everything we needed and all had a well deserved break. The village was also very welcoming, although the weather wasn't great, but hopefully we can return in the better weather and take advantage of more of what this idyllic area has to offer. Finally, thank you for the welcome gifts. The champagne was much appreciated as we celebrated our wedding anniversary. Thanks once again." Rob and Andrea, Lynn, Eric and Bramble, Edinburgh.
"We had a really enjoyable break. Having been to Warkworth before just for the day, we knew what we were doing by coming back to base ourselves here. Many thanks for the flowers and champagne, which were lovely touches for Lisa's 40th birthday. We rate the cottage as top notch with the attention to detail being superb. Have left several recommendations. Hoping to return next year." The Johnstone family, Leicestershire.
"We came to Warkworth and Sunny Cottage by chance needing a Friday to Friday booking in the area, but we soon discovered we had found something very special. Warkworth is beautiful with interesting shops and nice places to eat. The beach is stunning! We have stayed in many cottages throughout Britain but Sunny Cottage beats them all by far - it is perfect in every way, thank you." Lorna and Mick Carr from Cambridgeshire "I think you should film people's reactions as they walk through the door. It would be hilarious to watch everyone looking like goldfish! Thank you ever so much, I don't want to go home!" Natalie, aged 11.
"Had a fantastic weekend at Sunny Cottage, kids want to come and live here. Will definitely come back next year and do it all again. Thanks Julie and Mark, it was fab." The Stephenson family, Sunderland.
