Full of style, character and luxurious touches, this impressive property welcomes up to four adults for a restful holiday in this wonderful part of the Northumberland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The cottage is set on the banks of the River Coquet in Warkworth, where you’ll find a great choice of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops, including a handy local store. Explore the village’s 12th century ruined castle, and perhaps even venture (via a riverside walk and a ferry) to its unique rock-cut Hermitage. The nearest beach is just 1 mile away, while Alnwick Castle, 7.5 miles, is a majestic stately home that’s a must-visit while in the area. Spot puffins on a boat trip from Amble (2 miles) or head to Duridge Bay Country Park (4.5 miles), where you can take a picnic and go for a stroll, enjoy a bike ride or try some water sports.
Head under the oak porch and through the front door, then stroll into the lounge, which has plush seating, a soft carpet and carefully co-ordinated colour scheme. You’ll be drawn immediately to the wood burner that’s set into a brick inglenook – the perfect accompaniment to a winter’s evening. Oak beams and a timber sash window add character, while the ambient lighting gives a comforting glow. Through the window you’ll be able to watch the activity on the river, whether it be kayakers or swans and ducks. When it gets dark you can switch on the Smart TV or pull out a board game from the built-in cupboards for entertainment. When stomachs are rumbling, head into the stunning kitchen/diner, which adds a modern twist to the cottage’s historic atmosphere. There’s a view of the pretty patio from the dining table for four, and a chill-out zone in the form of a welcoming corner sofa. No need to miss out on the news or the best bit of a movie – there’s a Smart TV in this room, too. Alternatively, listen to the radio, play your music on the Bluetooth speaker or pick up one of the books from the shelves. Leading off this room is a handy ground-floor WC. Head up the stairs to find the two bedrooms, both beautifully decorated and boasting Smart TVs, high-quality cotton linens and New Zealand wool duvets for coolness in summer and warmth in winter. The serene super-king-size room overlooks the river and has an en-suite shower, while the handsome king-size bedroom includes an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath.
For peaceful views of the River Coquet and to watch the world go by, perhaps with a coffee in hand, a bench is provided in the front gravelled area, which gets the sun in the mornings. The rear patio is a sunny spot in the afternoons and is furnished with a table and chairs for four. Parking is on the quiet roadside at the front, subject to availability.
