Indulge in a romantic escape just for two in this stunning cottage, located on the riverside in the village of Warkworth. You can walk to a great selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants, stroll along the riverbank, visit the 14th-century church and tour the majestic Norman castle. Warkworth’s long, dog-friendly beach is just 1 mile away, while the lovely seaside village of Amble is only 2 miles, where you’ll find some excellent seafood restaurants as well as the harbour village with its retail ‘pods’. Explore the unspoilt coastline of Duridge Bay (4.5 miles), where you can hike, birdwatch and try some water sports. The magnificent Alnwick Castle, also known as ‘the Windsor of the North’, is just 7.5 miles away, while Beadnell, Bamburgh and Rothbury are all within 25 miles.

Enter this beautifully restored 19th-century cottage and admire its stylish and comfortable lounge/diner, thoughtfully designed to provide you with everything you need to relax. Plush seating surrounds an original sandstone inglenook fireplace, which boasts a wood burner to complement the central heating and provide a warming glow in cooler months. Take a book from the shelves, play some music or switch on the Smart TV to stream a show – this is a room in which you can truly unwind. There’s also an oak dining table which seats four people for sociable meals or drinks. The handsome kitchen, illuminated by skylights, includes a microwave and dishwasher, as well as that all-important coffee machine to get you going in the mornings. When night falls, take the stairs to find a spacious, super-king-size bedroom, decorated in tranquil tones and with lovely river views. A wood burner-effect electric fire is set in the inglenook fireplace, and there’s a TV so you can indulge in some late-night viewing. To help promote deep sleep, luxury bed linens complement a high-quality pocket-sprung mattress. The large bathroom is right next door, with a shower over the bath and more of those inspiring river views.

While the cottage does not have its own dedicated outside space, it is possible to enjoy the views from the public bench set on the adjacent riverbank – perhaps taking a coffee or a glass of something stronger with you, and looking out for herons, swans, ducks and even the occasional seal or kingfisher. As for parking, there are roadside spaces by the cottage which are almost always available, with further bays just a few metres away.

We had a great week at this wonderful cottage overlooking the river. The cottage was spotlessly clean..a credit to whoever looks after the cottage. Our stay was so comfortable, cosy and homely. The cottage was very well equipped with everything we needed. The welcome hamper and flowers on arrival were a lovely surprise as were the items in the fridRead morege. The position of the cottage couldnt have been better for lovely walks along the river, and for sitting by the river watching the many birds, ducks and the heron on the weir. We have stayed in many cottages before but this was definitely the best. Cant wait to return. Hide

The cottage was in a great location we were a bit worried about the parking but there was no issue. The cottage was lovely very well equipped and welcome hamper great. I think that the check in time should be 3pm not 4pm as you lose most of the arrival day.
