This charmingly updated historic cottage is a cosy escape tucked away in Warkworth’s conservation area; it’s ideal for a couple or small family. You’ll be just a few steps from the banks of the River Coquet, and close to the village’s independent shops and variety of places to eat and drink. Walk up to dramatic Warkworth Castle, which towers over the village, or stroll down to the beach – dog friendly all year round – 1 mile away. Charming Amble, from where you can take boat trips to see the puffins, is less than 2 miles away, while magnificent Alnwick Castle, also known as ‘The Windsor of the North’, is 7.5 miles away. Take a drive along the scenic coastline and explore the delightful villages of Beadnell, Embleton, Craster, Seahouses and Bamburgh, all within 25 miles.

Carefully updated to preserve its Victorian features, but including an array of contemporary luxuries, this house offers a warm welcome whatever the time of year. Stroll through archways and a pretty courtyard of gardens to reach your front door, then step into the inviting lounge. This lovely room has a wood burner set into an original inglenook fireplace, and to make it even more welcoming there are shelves of books, artworks and a choice of plush seating, with a Smart TV and Bose Bluetooth music speaker for entertainment. From here you can wander through to the small sunroom, a quiet spot in which to read, listen to music or watch the birds in the garden. The handsome kitchen/diner is filled with an array of cupboards and high-quality appliances, including a dual oven and American-style fridge/freezer. When you’ve prepared delicious meals there’s space at the circular dining table for four people to sit down together. Completing the ground floor is a useful WC. The carpeted staircase is another feature unique to this cottage, with wedge-shaped steps leading round and round, and a rope handrail. When you reach the top, you’ll find two bright and airy bedrooms, both with dual-aspect windows and featuring brass bedsteads, pocket-sprung mattresses, luxury bedlinen and views of Warkworth Castle. The king-size room has a TV and space for a cot, and the twin beds have double duvets for comfort. The family bathroom is another elegant and beautifully styled space, offering a shower over the bath.

A stable door leads from the kitchen/diner to the small patio garden, where there’s outdoor furniture ready for al fresco drinks and meals in the sunshine. Another delightful spot in which to sit out is the small front garden, surrounded by attractive shrubs and where there’s both a bench seat and a bistro dining set for two. Roadside parking is about 30 metres away, subject to availability.

Firstly Coquet Cottages' organisation was great, in particular the app had a wealth of useful information. The cottage was in a great location, with plenty of nearby parking, and a short walk into the village. It was a beautiful little cottage, and was very well equipped. The welcome hamper had some basics and some lovely treats. All in all, we hadRead more a great week staying in Sunny Cottage Hide

Our 2nd stay at Sunny Cottage. An extremely comfortable cottage that just suits our needs. The location is perfect so we don't have to use the car everyday.

We rented the house for 2 people although it can accommodate 4 plus 2 dogs! If theres 4 then space is limited. 1 small bathroom, no separate shower cubicle. Additionally there is only 1 small sink which is not enough space for 1 person let alone 4. The same comments apply to the kitchen hard to imagine 4 sat round the kitchen table. The cottage is in the perfect location and there was plenty of parking in the immediate area. We were able to walk into Warkworth itself, we could walk to the beach, had a lovely walk down by the river and back to the cottage via the castle and also walked to Amble and back. It is so quiet where the cottage is situated as well which made it a very Read morerestful place to stay. We were extremely lucky with the weather so we were out and about most of the stay but if the weather had turned we would not have been unhappy to have to stay inside this cottage. Inside, the living room and conservatory are both comfortable to sit in. The kitchen is a good size and very well equipped. Our bedroom was large and I found the bed very comfortable. I was also impressed that the hairdryer was full sized and there were plenty of hangers in the wardrobe (not always the case) and plenty of drawers. We will certainly be returning. Hide

Accommodation was very nice, we enjoyed relaxing in the conservatory and also enjoying a glass of wine on the patio. Excellent location beside the river on a quiet street and, being set back with access through the archway, very private. Already booked for a return visit next year.
