Perched on the edge of Acklington, a quaint village in Northumberland, this charming barn conversion provides a wonderful escape for up to five guests. It’s on a mostly single-level layout and is ideal for families, including two dogs. From the property, you’ll look out over manicured fields and woodland that eventually leads to a popular local ice cream parlour (1.5 miles). Head to the local pub (1 mile) and visit Warkworth and the fishing town of Amble (both 3 miles). For a bigger day out, the historic market town of Alnwick (11 miles), with its famous castle, gardens and treehouse, is a popular option. Despite being so central to Northumberland’s most-loved villages, coast and countryside, the cottage enjoys a wonderfully tranquil spot, made even sunnier thanks to its flat, sheltered setting.

Step straight into the bright and airy kitchen, where exposed beams and granite worktops create a charming aesthetic. You’ll have a stylish island for snacking or wine sipping, and a range cooker to inspire the chef of the group. The dining table here seats up to six. Through oak-framed glass doors, two steps down, is the gorgeous lounge with its soaring ceiling and cosy wood burner. Sink into the sofa or armchairs and switch on the Smart TV or simply gaze out through the French doors at the far-reaching woodland views. Two steps up from the hallway, the spacious master bedroom features a king-size bed, an en-suite shower room, and French doors leading to the patio. The second bedroom has two generously sized single beds, while the third offers one single and shuttered windows. All the bedrooms boast Smart TVs for lazy mornings, while a well-appointed family bathroom with a walk-in rainfall shower and separate bath completes the interior.

Outside, a generously sized garden awaits. Step out onto the spacious patio with its manicured planting and outdoor table and chairs perfect for al fresco dining. Beyond the patio, a flat lawn offers plenty of space for dogs and little ones to run wild – a garden gate at the bottom makes woodland walks easy. Guests will also find a private driveway parking for two cars.

The Barn is in such a lovely setting, looking out over open fields. It has lots of space it's designed to let the light flood into the property. The kitchen is really well equipped. You can walk to the fantastic Morwick Ice Cream parlour via the fields and St Oswald's way - it's definitely worth the visit !! Cavil Head is really central for many plRead moreace - Warkworth, Felton, Cresswell Beach, Druridge Bay, Percy Woods at Swarland ... and many places. The highlight for me was the dark skies at night, the peace (a railway line is near by, but it's hardly noticeable), the bats at night. the gardens are fully enclosed so perfect to be able to let the dogs out and not worry they were going to find their way out! A repeat visit for us (grandparents, daughter, granddaughter and dog) to this lovely property peacefully situated in the village of Acklington but close to Warkworth, Amble and a choice of beaches. The owner, Mike, is very helpful and, following his recommendations, we enjoyed some great exploring especially to the NT property of Cragside. Seal spoRead moretting off Coquet Island was another highlight. We love Northumberland and Cowslip Barn! Hide

The accommodation was beautiful throughout. Everything was very clean, and all the fixtures and fittings were of high quality. View from the very large enclosed garden was lovely. Location excellent for visiting all the local attractions. Don't forget to try the ice cream at the near by dairy. Couldn't fault anything, very highly recommended.

The property is set in a beautiful location and is very comfortable. We were contacted by the vendor on the day of arrival, but my phone was set to do not disturb. However, the vendor had local information printed out for us, which was very useful. A very kind welcome pack was left for us as well, which was enjoyed. I would highly recommend this coRead morettage to anyone, either wanting a quiet break or to use as a location to explore Northumberland Hide

We had a wonderful week long stay at the beautiful Cowslip Barn at Cavil Head Farm. The hosts contacted us the next morning after arrival to check everything was perfect, which was a nice touch. The house itself is stunning and peaceful with views over the countryside. It was spotlessly clean, spacious and the decor is of a very high standard. TherRead moree is so much to do within a short car journey. We would recommend you talk a walk along any of the local beaches, or a stroll around Amble or Warkworth. Further afield Alnwick is well worth a trip. In terms of eating out The Masons Arms and Bertrams in Warkworth were lovely. In Felton the Northumberland Arms is a bit more expensive but really high quality food and a great atmosphere. All were dog friendly. The walk from Craster to Low Newton and back (8 miles) is wonderful although there are so many good coastal walks along the Northumberland coast path you really are spoilt for choice. Hide
