Set in rural Northumberland, just a few miles from the coast, this remote holiday home provides idyllic surroundings for a couple’s retreat. Around 7 miles away, the Northumberland Coast Path and the majestic Holy Island await. Reachable via a tidal causeway at low tide, Holy Island is home to diverse birdlife, marine wildlife, and the striking Lindisfarne Castle (11.5 miles) – a destination well worth exploring on a clear afternoon. From Bamburgh (11.5 miles), a popular seaside village, you can also admire views of Holy Island and the neighbouring Farne Islands. With its mix of shops, pubs, eateries, and an iconic seafront castle, Bamburgh is a must-visit. Staying closer to home, explore the nearby woodlands and footpaths, including St Cuthbert’s Cave (1 mile), or head to Wooler (8 miles), a bustling market town on the edge of the Northumberland National Park.

Beautifully styled and immaculately finished, this single-storey holiday home has been renovated with care and attention to detail. Follow the long driveway up to the property and step inside, where the lounge/kitchen/diner sets a warm, sociable tone. Pastel-toned cabinetry, high ceilings, and original beams complement colourful artworks and accents throughout. Cook up a favourite dish in the well-appointed kitchen, dine at the table, and unwind on the sofa for a cosy evening in front of the Smart TV. As night falls, retreat to the king-size bedroom. Decorated in soft tones with romantic touches, this spacious room is filled with natural light from skylights by day, while blackout blinds ensure a restful night’s sleep. A gleaming bathroom sits just next door, complete with a shower over a roll-top bath.

Step outside to enjoy the beautifully maintained gardens, shared with neighbouring properties on-site. Lined with mature flower beds and lush greenery, this peaceful space is perfect for soaking up the tranquillity of the countryside. Hettorn Burn runs beneath a small bridge at the bottom of the garden, and a table with chairs provides a spot to sit out with a drink. Private parking for one car is available at the property.

We are return visitors to Horseshoe Cottage, and it is always a joy to come back. The cottage is immaculate and the countryside setting is beautiful. The owners Christine & Alan are the best of the hosts. The grounds and surrounding area are so peaceful and relaxing, its hard to tear ourselves away - but then you are only short distances from amaziRead moreng beaches, walks, and grand castles. And not forgetting the chickens in the garden and the pet sheep in the field - ever entertaining! Hide

What a splendid retreat from the hustle and bustle. Very attentive and welcoming, but not intrusive hosts, Alan and Christine have built a delightful cottage for two (a slightly larger one across the courtyard sleeps more people). The cottage is very well provisioned, from the welcome pack, to the living room and bedroom. The grounds are refreshingRead more and beautifully maintained by Doug (with a bit of help from Alan and the chickens). All in all one of the most relaxing places weve stayed in for a long time. What sets this apart as well is thankfully that no dogs or other pets are permitted. It is getting more difficult to find these locations on Coquet Cottages website and hopefully no more will be added to the 80% that allow dogs. Hide

This is our second visit to Horseshoe Cottage, we enjoyed it so much last year, we decided to return again. The cottage is the perfect spot, to get away from it all. After a very long drive, arriving at this location is heaven. The location is extremely tranquil and you start to unwind the moment you arrive. The owners have thought of everything inRead more this property, even down to providing the bedside cabinets with a torch each, just in case it should be needed. The place is absolutely spotless, helped by the fact that no pets are allowed, which for us is perfect and getting harder to find. The wonderful owners are on site should you need anything, and are extremely helpful. We cannot praise Horseshoe Cottage highly enough. We would highly recommend this property after spending 2 weeks here, 2 years on the trot. Hide
