A gorgeous, stone townhouse, close to the heart of Alnwick, this period retreat has been beautifully renovated. Today, a fabulous base for enjoying the colourful market town and its Northumberland surroundings, the property sleeps six guests across three bedrooms. Explore the town centre on foot, browsing in fascinating shops and pausing for afternoon tea or a meal. Spend sunny days wandering through Alnwick Garden, 350 metres away, with its magical fountains and bamboo labyrinth. Visit the castle, a little further on, which was built after the Norman Conquest and famously appears in the Harry Potter movies. Treat yourselves to days out on the magnificent Northumberland coast. Stroll across the sand at Alnmouth, 4.5 miles away, or picnic at beautiful Warkworth Beach, 7.5 miles away. While you are here, visit the medieval castle or head a further 3 miles to Amble to take a boat trip out to see the puffins.

Step into the lobby to hang your coats, then wander on through the beautiful, stained-glass door to the main reception hall. Prepare to be wowed by the period features and gorgeous decor throughout the house. The work of a professional interior designer, the accommodation encompasses colourful spaces that have been finished with a nod to both mid-20th-century design and the Arts and Crafts movement. Make your way into the open-plan lounge/diner, with its eye-catching works of art, to recline on the sumptuous, L-shaped sofa as you watch TV or listen to music. Amble through to the dining area to light the wood burner and set a board game up on the table. Gather in here later to sit down to a holiday feast. The galley-style kitchen has also been fitted out with flair and features high-specification appliances and equipment to make self-catering as smooth as possible during your stay. All three of your bedrooms, each with its own elegant finish, are on the first floor of the house. Choose between the super-king-size, with a TV, the double or the single. All three offer ample storage and luxury mattresses and bedding to ensure exceptional comfort throughout your break. The single bedroom features an additional pull-out bed for a potential sixth guest. The generous family bathroom, with a lovely freestanding, period-style bath and a walk-in shower, is also on the first floor, together with a separate WC.

Choose whether to enjoy your freshly made morning coffee out in the courtyard to the rear of the house or on a bench in the small garden to the front on fine days. Soak up the sunshine in the south-facing front garden on summer afternoons as you watch the world go by. Parking for this property is on the street, subject to availability.

Our second stay here. Beautifully equipped and comfortably furnished. Thoughtful and generous welcome pack. Good location. Parking availability next to the house variable but we always found a space at the back. My partner is 6foot tall and so the crockery shelves in the kitchen were good for him but too high for me. It's a minor detail and the onlRead morey problem for me. Walk in shower was great. This is my first choice for future stays. Hide

This was our second visit to Alnwick and surrounding area, but our first ever holiday using cottage accommodation. The owner has not disappointed in presenting a beautiful home for a welcoming stay. A lovely welcome pack was provided, and No1 Duke Street provides everything we needed during our stay.

We use coquet cottages for any holiday booked in Northumberland as their service and professionalism is excellent and Stephanie and the team are very friendly and helpful. The house in Duke street was excellent . Very close to the centre and in an nice part of the town. The house was very impressive and the owners background in interior design cleaRead morerly showed. However it was a home and felt very comfortable and welcoming. I would definitely recommend staying there and we will again. Alnwick has a lovely park area called Hulne park with six designated walking routes which we discovered in last weeks heatwave and the cool shade was most welcoming! Another attraction of staying in Alnwick we left the car outside the house and public transport at2.50 per journey even to Newcastle ( we didnt go there) was a bargain. We liked the Bistro and the art gallery in Alnmouth and the boathouse in amble but best of all we enjoyed staying at Duke Street. Hide
