A gorgeous period cottage, set at the heart of the coastal village of Warkworth, this elegant abode is the perfect place to escape to. Sleeping four guests and welcoming pets, the enticing, two-bedroom holiday home is less than 1 mile from the spectacular sandy beach, with its views of Coquet Island. Make castles in the sand, explore the rockpools or hire rowing boats. Step straight out from the cottage to browse in interesting shops, have a bite to eat or visit the medieval castle. Venture 2 miles into vibrant Amble, on the River Coquet estuary, to wander through its bustling harbour village, where you will find a spectrum of outlets and eateries. From the harbour, you can also book a boat trip out to see the seals and puffins. Make some sandwiches and head out along the Northumberland Coast Path, perhaps attempting the 10.5-mile section between Warkworth and Cresswell.

Open the front door to this refined retreat to discover immaculate accommodation with something of a boutique hotel style about it. From the small hall, wander through to the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Discover a stylish space, where an abundance of natural light streams through the Georgian window, which still has its original wooden shutters at one end and French doors at the other. Settle on the caramel leather sofa or in a comfortable chair to find your current box set on the Smart TV or listen to music through the Bose speakers. Switch on the wood burner-effect vapour fire in the colder months to throw a cosy glow across the room. Take two oak steps down to enter the kitchen/diner, where the glass doors can be opened onto the deck and garden on fine days. This sophisticated space, with its granite work surfaces, features a range of high-quality appliances to ensure you have everything you need to help you cater for your family or friends. Dine at the table, gaze out at the garden and linger over a bottle of wine from the cooler. At the end of each magical day away, climb the stairs to your bedrooms on the first floor. With hotel-standard linen and towels, these both feature king-size beds. One of the rooms has zip-and-link beds that can also be arranged as 2’ 6” singles if discussed in advance. The attractive family bathroom, where you can choose between a shower and a bath, is also here.

Step out onto the deck to soak up the sunshine or bring your four-legged friend in from the footpath at the end of the garden. Play fetch with him on the lawn, then unwind with a cup of fresh coffee from the machine or a glass of something chilled. Parking is on the street, free of charge and subject to availability, but guests can unload and load right in front of the cottage.

The cottage is ideally situated in Warkworth with shops / pubs and walks to near - it is well equipped and has the added advantage of a patio and garden (both of which we used on numerous occasions as the weather was lovely)

Wouldn't recommend. Not a comfy stay, and difficult to switch-off from the road noise. Warkworth was a delight but if visiting again I would stay off the main road.
