Once home to Alnwick Castle’s gardener, this gorgeous, Grade II-listed cottage makes a superb base for a couple or small family eager to explore Northumberland. Sleeping three guests, this two-bedroom, pet-friendly hideaway is nestled in a peaceful part of the town, within 0.5 miles of shops, eateries and the cobbled marketplace. Stroll the same distance to visit the castle, which dates back to just after the Norman Conquest. The impressive Alnwick Garden, less than 1 mile from the cottage, also makes a wonderful afternoon out. Head out of town to spend a day exploring scenic Northumberland National Park, 14.5 miles away, with its many footpaths and trails. Stroll along the sandy beach at delightful Alnmouth, 5 miles away, with its charming pastel-shaded fishermen’s cottages and stone houses. Follow a section of the Northumberland Coast Path from here. This scenic, long-distance route runs for over 50 miles, from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Cresswell.
Take one step up from the front garden to enter the attractive abode. From the hall, head through to the kitchen/diner to fill the cupboards and fridge with the delicious Northumberland-produced food items you have bought. Open the door to the pretty patio on fine days, then prepare a superb meal to sit down to at the table. The light-filled lounge is a lovely place to while away your evenings together. With a Georgian-style sash window, stripped wooden floor and feature fireplace, this still retains its true period style. Stream your favourite shows on the Smart TV or listen to music on the DAB radio or via the Bluetooth speaker. Choose a book to read or a game to play. As the day draws to a close, make your way upstairs to the lovely bedrooms, a king-size and a single, both of which have pocket-sprung mattresses and high-quality bed linen. Gaze out towards the castle and fields before heading down to breakfast in the morning. The beautifully finished family bathroom is also here.
Have fresh coffee from the machine out at the table in the charming front garden, where there is a small lawn and patio and which is enclosed by a picket fence. There is private parking for one car in front of the garage, 50 metres from the cottage. Bikes can be stored in this garage. Additional free parking is a further 50 metres away, subject to availability.
