This pretty cottage sits in a charming stone terrace on the outskirts of Warkworth. It offers space for up to four guests to enjoy this chocolate-box village and its scenic surroundings. There’s so much to see and do within easy reach. In Warkworth you can stroll along the riverside, visit the majestic, ruined castle and walk to the long, sandy beach (1 mile). In around 2 miles you can reach the fishing port of Amble, where you can buy fresh fish from the harbour and take a boat trip to Coquet Island to see puffins and other wildlife. For hiking, water sports and birdwatching head to Duridge Bay (5 miles), and there’s golf at Alnmouth, also 5 miles away. The spectacular Alnwick Castle, often referred to as ‘The Windsor of the North’, is just 7.5 miles away.

Step through the front door, taking note of the step down into the entrance hall and then again into the lounge. Here, a beautifully co-ordinated colour scheme creates a calming ambience, the original sash windows have wooden shutters and there is a lovely fireplace with a wood-burner-effect electric fire. As you sink into the soft seating you can switch on the Freeview TV, play a DVD or even challenge each other to a game on the Nintendo Wii. There’s another small step down into the charming kitchen/diner, in which there’s plenty of space and a farmhouse-style table for four. Beyond the kitchen you’ll find the fabulous family bathroom, a stylish and luxurious space with a double-sized walk-in shower and a modern, free-standing bath. From the rear hallway you’ll have access to the patio, and there’s a utility cupboard that contains a washer/dryer. Head back to the front door and up the cottage-style stairs to find two superb bedrooms, one king-size and one twin which can be made up as a super-king-size on request, both with soft carpet, ambient lighting and a soft colour palette creating a tranquil feel (please note the two steps down to the twin/super-king-size bedroom). Set in between the bedrooms is a WC.

After exciting days out, return home to relax on your private patio, which is enclosed with a low fence and furnished with an outdoor table and chairs. Free parking is available on the quiet road outside.

The cottage was lovely, clean, welcoming and just as it appeared on the booking site. A welcome pack was provided with all the basic essentials and more. The two bedrooms were spacious and the beds were all comfortable. The bathroom was well equipped with a power shower and a lovely bath (just what you need after a days outing). The steps down froRead morem the front door into the lounge and the lounge into the kitchen took some getting used to (maybe a strip at the top of the steps would be helpful if possible). All in all we had a really good stay thank you . Hide

When we arrived the outward appearance was a little disappointing and didnt look very inviting. However it is an extremely well equipped cottage with lovely furnishings and the beds were very comfortable. We felt cold some of the time and the water was generally not very hot. As an older couple we couldnt get down to reach the switches on the electRead moreric fire. With all the little steps inside and steep staircase probably more suited to younger couples. Hide

Wren Cottage was comfortable and a little quirky. We chose this cottage because there was on street parking at the door, upstairs toilet and a walk in shower. Warkworth was lovely, good food and a river walk. The village shops and caf appear to be closed on Mondays. Amble was convenient for supermarket, petrol and takeaways. This was our second visit to Wren Cottage. It is beautifully decorated and very clean. The cottage is comfy and very well equipped. The beds are especially comfy and the shower powerful. The owner is in the process of replacing one or two items of furniture. The welcome pack was much appreciated as was the provision of basic cleaning products. We eRead morespecially liked the location on the outskirts of Warkworth but only a short stroll to the village centre and being able to walk to the beach too. On street parking was easy on the quiet road. We were fortunate to have good weather and Wren Cottage made a great base for exploring the local area. We would happily stay again. Hide
