Property code: OC-COQ60

A magnificent period house on the fringes of Warkworth, this detached stone residence is ideal for a group escape to Northumberland. Sleeping 12 guests, the six-bedroom, pet-friendly property is less than 1 mile from the picturesque sandy beach, where you can picnic, paddle and potter in rockpools. Keen walkers can also lace up their walking boots and head out along the Northumberland Coast Path from here. Stroll 1 mile from the house to experience the grandeur of the baronial fortress-palace of Warkworth Castle or head the same distance to play golf at the club, which has spectacular views of the coastline. Venture 2.5 miles to spend time in charming Amble, with its shops, eateries and fascinating harbour village, where you can shop for local produce. Book seats on a boat trip to spot puffins, seals and other wildlife from here too.

Wander into the striking property via the vestibule and grand reception hall, with its gorgeous period features, such as stained glass, high ceilings and a handsome, original staircase. Decide whether to head into the capacious lounge or cosy snug to unwind together. In the lounge, natural light floods in through an abundance of huge windows that still feature their period shutters. Gather on the plush sofas and chairs in here to watch the Smart TV, play games or simply gaze out at the beautiful gardens. The smaller snug is ideal for alternative viewing or a few quiet moments with your book. The gorgeous kitchen/diner, with its exposed stone walls, is very much the beating heart of the house. Here, you can gather to cook, chat and linger at the table or breakfast bar over coffee or a glass of wine together. Pull open the doors in here to step out to the courtyard patio. For more formal meals, set the long table in the dining room and feast in style. There is also a utility room and a separate WC downstairs. Your sumptuous bedrooms and bathroom are all on the first floor. These include a south-facing super-king-size with an en-suite shower room, and three king-sizes, two of which also have their own en-suite shower rooms. There are also two twin bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room and beds that can be arranged as a super-king-size by prior agreement. The sleek family bathroom is also at this level. All the bedrooms have good storage and luxury linen.

Wander out into the garden, which is not fully enclosed, on fine days. Play games with the children and pets on the lawn, grill local produce on the BBQ and dine at the table in the courtyard. There is private parking for eight cars.

Oaklands is a lovely building and had plenty of space and room for 3 families. The level of cleanliness was excellent. The welcome hamper was brilliant and a very lovely surprise. The position of the house is perfect for exploring the area.

We were 9 adults meeting up for a long weekend in July. The house was very well kept, spacious and comfortable. We stayed at Oaklands for 3 nights to celebrate my Mum's 80th Birthday. The house & location were great. There were 10 of us altogether & there was ample room. The house was very well equipped. We also had 2 dogs, who enjoyed their stay too.

The house is very spacious and well equipped. It was perfect for a family gathering to celebrate an important birthday. The welcome hamper was superb.
