An attractive, two-bedroom cottage, this delightful retreat nestles between Seahouses and North Sunderland. Sleeping four guests, the sun-soaked holiday home is perfect for couples and small families wishing to be close to the beach. Bring your canine companion and walk less than 1 mile to reach the dog-friendly sands. From here you can pick up the picturesque Northumberland Coast Path or head 3 miles along the beach when the tide is out to Bamburgh. Visit dramatic Bamburgh Castle, in its commanding position up on the rocks, while you are here. Seahouses offers a good selection of interesting shops and eateries. It also has a harbour where you can book wildlife-spotting boat trips out to the Farne Islands. Take time out to visit Alnwick, 15 miles away, where you can tour its castle, made famous by the Harry Potter movies, and stroll around the beautiful Alnwick Garden, with its impressive fountains.

Step into the cottage via the foyer, where you can pull off shoes, then head down the hall. Wander on in to find accommodation filled with sunlight. The lounge, with its bay window, is to the front of the house. Here you can fire up the wood burner during autumn and winter stays and recline on the comfortable seating as you plan the following day’s exciting activities. Play a game or watch TV instead. A door from here leads through to the stylish lounge/kitchen/diner at the rear of the house. There is additional soft seating where you can sip a cup of coffee as you chat to the chef. Open the doors to the large, glass-fronted patio so everyone can wander outside with ease on fine days. The immaculate, south-east-facing kitchen space enjoys glorious sunshine, making it a pleasant place to prepare snacks and meals. Gather at the wooden table to enjoy your feasts. There is also a utility room and a separate WC downstairs. As each superb day draws to a close, climb the stairs up to your relaxing bedrooms. The king-size room benefits from a large window and is filled with natural light. There is good storage in here. The twin is smaller but also enjoys lots of sunshine. The family bathroom has both a bath and a shower to ensure you have the choice of a long soak or quick rinse.

The beautiful garden is the jewel in the crown of this appealing retreat. Unwind on the large patio over a cold drink or delicious meal out in the fresh air. Grill local produce on the BBQ. Take a few steps down to the luscious lawn and pretty flower beds. There is private, driveway parking for one car, with additional on-street parking close by, subject to availability.

Excellent property in a good location. Parking no problem for 2 cars and walking distance to centre of Seahouses but in a quiet location. Excellent spot to return to after a day sightseeing.

This is our 2nd time here. Gorgeous cottage. A lovely hamper & flowers for us and the dogs got one too. Very nice! Comfortable, clean has everything you need. 5 minute walk into Seahouses, shops, restaurants, pubs, and the harbour and beach. The garden is great for the dogs to run around. A sun trap patio with furniture and a table. Just perfect! BRead moreig thanks. Hide

Really loved Saltwater cottage. It was a very comfortable and cosy home. Everything we needed for a week away. Great location for exploring the area. The garden was great and the patio was sheltered to enjoy the sun even on windy days. It was very clean, the human and dog hampers were a lovely touch. The only negative was the size of the second bedRead moreroom for grown up kids. My daughter is tall and the single beds were a bit short with the wooden bed ends. That bedroom is very small and probably better suited for younger kids. Everything else was amazing. Hide

Saltwater Cottage is a beautifully maintained, stylish cottage with absolutely everything you need. It has a comfortable lounge area and large kitchen. The patio area is spacious and private and the back garden was great for our dog. (Not entirely enclosed if your dog can vault a two-foot wall next to the back gate and tends to ignore "recall" - goRead moreod job I packed a long tether!). It's a 10 minute walk down the road to Seahouses which has shops, take-aways and pubs - all very convenient. It's also well-situated for travelling north or south to visit other places. This was our first visit to Northumberland and we will definitely return - it's all so unspoilt and has retained some local character - rare these days! Would not hesitate to choose Saltwater Cottage again. Hide

We had a great week at Saltwater Cottage. It is in a very good location, only a few hundred metres from the amenities in Seahouses, but quiet and backs onto fields. It was beautifully and tastefully decorated, and we loved all the artwork and little finishes. It was well equipped, with the exception of an oven-proof dish/casserole dish (we bought oRead morene and left it there!). Our only woes were the sofas (looked great, not so comfortable as they looked), and the shower (over the bath, definitely not a power shower). However, these were minor, and did not affect our enjoyment of the cottage. We appreciated the storage in the garage for bikes, and the garden, although a taller, more determined dog than ours (small Jack Russell Terrier) could make it over the back wall or gate, which leads onto a footpath. We loved the solid-fuel stove for coziness. Main bedroom was a great size with plenty of storage. All in all, a lovely cottage and we would definitely recommend it and hope to return. Hide
