This inviting holiday retreat enjoys a prime position in Alnwick. The property sleeps six guests across three spacious, beautifully styled bedrooms and has a sociable, open-plan layout that suits both large families and groups of friends. Head out of your front door to wander along Alnwick’s picturesque, cobbled streets and explore the independent shops, including the UK’s largest second-hand bookstore. After some retail therapy, refuel in one of the town’s many pubs or cafes. A visit to Alnwick isn’t complete without a trip to Alnwick Castle, which you may recognise from the Harry Potter films. Enjoy a stroll around The Alnwick Garden, known for its stunning cherry blossoms. For a day at the seaside, journey to the sandy beach at Alnmouth (4 miles). Further afield, take day trips to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne (27 miles) or the pretty coastal villages of Bamburgh (17 miles) and Seahouses (15 miles).

The traditional stone cottage cleverly combines characterful original features, such as exposed beams, with contemporary interiors. Enter the holiday home into a porch area where you can store coats and walking boots, before heading through to the spacious lounge/kitchen/diner with its striking, vaulted ceiling and vibrant colour scheme. Sumptuous sofas are arranged around a Smart TV for enjoying movie nights together, and there’s a wood burner-effect gas fire for those chilly evenings. To the rear of the room is a sleek kitchen area with glossy units and all the equipment needed to cater for the group. Rounding off the living space is an elegant dining table for hosting dinner parties and special occasions. All three bedrooms are decorated in calming tones and have plush linens for a good night’s sleep. Choose from a super-king-size bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, an inviting king-size, or a cosy twin. A fabulous family bathroom with a free-standing bath and a rainfall shower completes the accommodation.

Outside, the enclosed garden has a large patio with furniture for al fresco dining, as well as feature lighting to set the mood. Beyond the patio is a lawn area where children and four-pawed guests can play. Private parking is available on the driveway for two or three cars, depending on size.

Lovely cottage, tastefully and sympathetically restored. Spacious and well equipped. Tha welcome hamper was a lovely touch with delicious scones and many other treats. Cottage is only a few minutes walk from Alnwick Castle and other attractions and ideally placed for exploring Nortumberland. We would have no hesitation in returning next year.

Excellent location to explore the beautiful Northumberland countryside. The cottage is well equipped with high end appliances, good wifi and large screen tv. The en-suite bedroom is very spacious and comfortable. A few niggles, the toilet door was very hard to close, a kitchen electric socket didnt work and a bedroom radiator didnt work. Had a lovely week at Wagonway Lodge. Plenty of space for the 5 of us and 2 dogs. Beds comfortable, location excellent, outside space a real bonus. It is overlooked by other properties but we didnt find this a problem. Welcome hamper and flowers a really nice touch. Even a hamper for the dogs. Only fault is a lack of cupboard space for your own foodRead more. Would definitely stay again. Hide

Wagonway Lodge has been thoughtfully converted and the large central space - kitchen, dining area, sitting area running into each other - is large and airy. Beds are very comfortable but there is no blackout so we woke at 4am most mornings. It's a stone's throw to the excitement of Barter Books and a short walk into the historic centre, although thRead moree independent butcher has now closed, while the Co-op is low on fresh produce. We ended up driving out to the large retail park to the south of the town for all our food shopping. Alnwick Castle and Garden (separate attractions) are both expensive and seemed to be mobbed with coach parties so we did not visit them, but the rest of the castles along the coast are stunning in their different ways. We also enjoyed visiting the gardens at Howick Hall and Wallington. Our guest dog had a great time on the sandy beaches. The greatest disappointment was the 'enclosed garden', which turned out to be a large patio with dining table and upright chairs overlooked by the houses to the north. There were no loungers or sunshades. The small patch of grass right next to the neighbour's fence is too uneven for sitting out, so we ended up reading inside. Hide

I can't praise this accommodation high enough, it is in a perfect location for exploring Northumberland. The lodge was immaculate & very comfortable, high praise to the cleaning staff! We loved everything about this cottage, the beds were so comfy and the outdoor space was thoroughly enjoyed by our terrier Harry & ourselves for outside dining in thRead moree sunshine. The complimentary hamper that greeted us was delicious and such a lovely surprise. Thank you all so much for making our holiday so special, we shall be returning very soon xx Hide
