Enjoying a central but peaceful location in the historic village of Warkworth, this fresh and welcoming cottage makes a charming getaway for up to six guests eager to explore an unforgettable part of the stunning Northumberland coastline. Warkworth has a choice of great pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops, and is home to a magnificent 15th-century castle and a secluded medieval hermitage. There’s also a long, golden sandy beach just a mile to the east. The River Coquet passes close to the cottage, offering tranquil walks to the coast and inland. A stroll south along the estuary will take you to the bustling fishing port of Amble (1.5 miles) which has some fabulous seafood restaurants and a busy Sunday market. To the north, the popular town of Alnwick (7.5 miles) is known for its majestic castle and the breathtaking Alnwick Garden.

Entering this airy cottage, head along the hallway and into the light-filled kitchen/diner. This bright and cheerful room offers a warm welcome, with a central dining table perfect for family get-togethers. The fully equipped and thoughtfully organised kitchen has plenty of storage and workspace, and there’s a handy sofa to one side. The ground floor also has a WC. Upstairs, the first floor features the spacious, fresh and cosy lounge, with comfortable seating, a TV and views over towards the river. Just along the hall, you will find a stylish bathroom and a delightful twin bedroom which can be made up as a super-king-size on request. Heading up to the second floor there are the two remaining bedrooms, each with low sloping ceilings: a snug bunk bedroom with a skylight, perfect for children, and the characterful king-size room with a TV, plenty of storage space, picturesque river views and an en-suite shower room.

From the dining area, doors lead out into the sweet and cheery east-facing courtyard garden. Featuring a lovely patio with ample outdoor furniture, this is a fantastic spot for dining alfresco and taking in views across the estuary where you can spot a range of local wildlife including the occasional seal. Parking is available for one car on the private drive, with additional parking bays along the riverbank, about 30 metres away.

We have just returned home from our third stay at Owl Cottage and have already booked for next year. The cottage has everything we need for a relaxing holiday and the views are just perfect. Warkworth itself is just the prettiest place and a perfect base for exploring the wonderful coast and countryside of Northumberland.

Thanks so much for a great long weekend spent at Owl Cottage. The property was so lovely and the customer service from Coquet cottages THE BEST i've experienced. I've booked with many others over recent years - cottages.com, Sykes, Crabtree and Crabtree and this trip was the best yet. The welcome baskets were so lovely - all local produce, the breaRead mored, milk, chocolate, coffee, teabags, fresh flowers, scones and Jam and even a welcome basket for our dog - with a towel for her wet paws and lovely treats which she LOVED. Its those thoughtful gestures that make such a difference to your holiday experience, so thanks so much from us. The property itself was spacious and so comfortable - special mention to the sofas and the comfy beds! Everything you could need in the kitchen too and the location on the river amazing. We didn't walk to the beach as the hills were quite steep but we did drive up and park and walk down through the dunes which was very special at sunrise. We will definitely be choosing Coquet for our next break - thanks to Kira for being awesome and helping with the booking. Cannot recommend the property enough - the EV charge was AMAZING too - right on the drive and no issues with charging. Hide
