With space for up to four guests in two beautiful bedrooms, this characterful getaway sits in Yarrow within the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, less than a mile from Kielder Water & Forest Park, one of the most remarkable places to visit in the UK, especially for anyone interested in nature, wildlife, stargazing, water sports, walking, cycling, fishing and other outdoor activities. The area is rich in wildlife, including the famous Kielder ospreys that return each spring to hunt over the reservoir. Enjoy walking and cycling along the Lakeside Way, watching falcons, eagles, hawks, kites and owls at the Birds of Prey Centre (5 miles), or exploring the world‑class Kielder Observatory for unforgettable stargazing. As night falls, Elf Kirk Viewpoint (2 miles) offers breathtaking dark‑sky vistas, and after a day of adventure, the welcoming local pub is just 0.5 miles from your door.

Enormous character fills every room of this wonderful property, which successfully blends original features with modern luxuries. There are delightful touches everywhere, including antique furnishings, quirky collections and eclectic works of art. Enter the single-storey cottage into the impressive kitchen, where the cook of the holiday will have everything they need to put together delicious meals, including a handy microwave and air fryer. This room flows through to a cosy lounge/diner, where there are comfortable sofas and a Smart TV that’s cleverly disguised as one of the framed pictures. As you dine, you’ll have a wonderful view of the countryside at the front of the property and beyond. From here, a step leads up to the hallway and the front entrance, where you'll find hooks for outdoor clothing and a luxurious, Victorian-style bathroom, which features a large, walk-in shower. Two shallow steps from the lounge/diner lead to the snug, where a wood burner is set into the inglenook fireplace, back-lit to add to the atmosphere. This is a perfect space in which to unwind: plush sofas are arranged to encourage conversation and relaxation, perhaps reading a good book, playing a game of chess or inspecting maps to plan your next day’s adventures. Wall-to-wall glazing provides a stunning view across the patio garden to the woodland and river beyond, and, in the warmer months, you can open the French doors to enjoy inside/outside living. When it’s time to turn in, choose from two tranquil bedrooms, both of which offer ample storage space and feature soft rugs on wooden floorboards. The super-king-size bedroom boasts a stunning four-poster, and the king-size is a spacious room with pretty views.

To the back of the cottage is an enclosed patio with garden furniture overlooking the river below – a sunny spot in which to enjoy breakfast with a view or an evening supper. Another wonderful outside space is the gazebo terrace, with lighting and views of the river, which has a unique surprise: two beautiful copper baths, which you can fill from the hot and cold taps. Relish in a long, relaxing soak with wonderful rural views. A lawned area at the side of the cottage features bench seating – a great spot for afternoon tea. For even more fun, follow the private, illuminated path down to the BBQ/firepit hut with cushioned seating and a DAB radio so you can also listen to music or a favourite show. Keep going further down, and stone steps will lead you onto the final, magical seating area just above the river. At the front of the property, there is off-road parking for two cars, and a garage which has four bike stands and hooks for outdoor equipment.

This cottage is a home away from home we didnt want to go home! From the moment you arrive you just feel relaxed and settled. The house has such character and charm! Where do I start! Upon entering the kitchen it is well stocked with all you need, the crockery and glass ware make you feel transported to a more elegant time. The welcome hamper was Read morebeautiful and greatly appreciated. The information booklet provides you with everything you need and more for an incredible stay and the owner really has gone above and beyond to be so helpful! The first sitting room is so comfortable and cosy to snuggle and watch the telly in the hidden frame or just sit and relax. The lighting on an evening makes it so cosy indeed. The bedrooms are gorgeous and traditional, the bedding is luxurious and each picture and accessory compliments it so well and supplied with complimentary robes to use for your stay and slippers. The bathroom is beautiful with the vintage style tiles and a good powerful shower and the traditional style pull flush. The rear living room with the beautiful fireplace and fire is just incredible and such a supply of games and books to read. We felt like lord and lady of the manor and watching the birds on a morning with a cup of tea in such fine cups was brilliant! Outside where do we begin the copper baths are incredible and it doesnt matter if its raining theres a perfectly sized parasol, we watched buzzards and a woodpecker and plenty of other birds flying above us. Also in the sideboard there are binoculars and telescope for star gazing! Make your way down to the fire hut its gorgeous we never got the chance to use it as we were busy exploring but our next visit we certainly will be. The sound of the river is so calming and the vast array of seating in its winding paths just makes you feel in your own little world. This house has been carefully thought out with such attention to detail and is truly a rare find! Two minute drive is the pheasant inn which we visited twice and had outstanding meals the Sunday dinner was gorgeous we recommend the lamb (book to save disappointment). If you want luxury and home away from home comfort and adventure of exploring Kielder then look no further! Thank you for such a lovely stay we most definitely will be returning.
