A peaceful rural retreat in the village of Rock, this charming period cottage sits between the dramatic Northumberland coast and the attractive market town of Alnwick. It’s perfect for couples or a family looking for somewhere special to slow down and spend quality time together while still being close to standout attractions. Just 6 miles away, Alnwick has the world-famous castle and gardens to explore, along with a remarkable second-hand bookshop. When you’re ready for a dose of fresh sea air, Embleton Bay (5 miles) offers a stunning beach set against the backdrop of Dunstanburgh Castle. Follow the coastal path from here to Craster Harbour for spectacular views along the way. Further afield, Cragside (23 miles) is an extraordinary Victorian mansion of discovery set within a fantasy mountain landscape.

The cottage is full of personality, with creative feature walls, quirky curios, and splashes of colour setting an instantly welcoming tone. On entering the property, which dates to the 1820s, you’ll find a practical porch area with coat hooks and shoe racks for storing your outdoor gear. Off the hallway, the cosy lounge has comfortable seating, a Smart TV, and an inglenook fireplace housing a roaring wood burner for warming up chilly days. Opposite the lounge, the contemporary open-plan kitchen/diner forms the heart of the cottage, designed for sociable mealtimes and after-dinner fun courtesy of the selection of games provided. A door from the kitchen leads to a handy utility room and out to the garden. Upstairs, three individually styled bedrooms all come with generous storage space and convenient USB charging points. Two rooms are king-size, one with an en-suite walk-in shower, while the double bedroom overlooks the back garden. Completing this floor is a family bathroom, featuring a bath with a hand-held shower attachment and illuminated recesses for storing your toiletries.

At the back of the cottage, you’ll find a lovely garden enclosed by a fence, with a lawned area and a patio with an outdoor table and seating for al fresco dining on warmer days. The outside tap might also come in useful if you need to clean muddy boots after coastal walks. You can park two cars on the driveway, and there’s an additional parking space in front of the cottage if needed.

Church view is an idyllic house in an idyllic location. It is a little haven from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Walking round the village in the morning with the dog and discovering lots of beautiful places and interesting things was a tonic. The house is comfortable and beautifully decorated, with lots of humerous and quirky touches,Read more and has everything you could ever need. It is one of the best equipped cottages, I have stayed in. Sylvia and Cliff were a delight and very helpful and there welcome pack was more than generous. Thank you Hide
