Holy Island

Lindisfarne Priory on Holy Island on the Northumberland coast.

Vera’s fictional home is set on Holy Island, and has been featured in a number of episodes across the 13 years of filming. The beauty of Holy Island is you must travel during low tide, when the causeway is available. It’s a peaceful setting, with stunning views, a magnificent castle and beautiful stretch of coastline – a must-visit location!

Alnmouth

Looking south to Alnmouth across the estuary on a blue sky day.

Lined with colourful houses, a golden beach and pretty views, Alnmouth is a quaint coastal village which has been used as a filming location in Vera many times. Set in a National Landscape, Alnmouth stood as the fictional village of Mardle and the beach was given a makeover, with the addition of a jetty.

Amble

Boats at Amble Marina on a blue sky day.

Another picturesque Vera filming location in Northumberland is the bustling fishing town of Amble. From the pretty marina with it’s array of fishing boats to the pier and Coquet Island, it’s easy to see why Amble was chosen as a filming location. What’s more, our very own The Penthouse was used in series 12 episode 1!

Hexham

In series 13 of Vera, Hexham played the role of the fictional town of Bentham. Featuring the historic market town, Hexham Abbey can be seen in the background during some episodes. Steeped in history, Hexham offers a fantastic choice of shops, cosy pubs and scenic walks, making it an idyllic place to explore.
