We stayed at this charming and tranquil cottage for three nights over the New Year period. We immediately felt at home, not just because its beautiful decor and well-chosen accessories but because of the care taken by the owner, who contacted us during our stay to make sure that we were happy and settled (which we were!) It was so relaxing (and the log burner was so efficient) that we spent every evening there, and using the well – equipped kitchen was a great pleasure. The cottage is a short distance from Warkworth and within easy reach of local attractions. We had a wonderful time exploring the local beaches and can particularly recommend Bertram’s Cafe in Warkworth after a bracing walk by the sea! We would definitely stay again.Escape the ordinary read our guest book
Tips from a local
Find some interesting sea-critters in the rock pools at Birling Rocks. Head to the beach and take a left, heading north up the coast. Walk as far as you can and you will reach the rock pools at Birling Rocks. Seals have been spotted on these rocks many times, so you may be lucky! At the south end of the beach there is a pier leads right out with gorgeous views of Coquet Island and the Amble harbour.
Tips from a local
Have a trip to Alnwick Castle and Garden, and enjoy a spot of lunch at The Treehouse. Although not cheap to get into the attractions, the tickets do allow entry for a year so it’s an excuse to visit Northumberland again! Make sure you book up in advance at The Treehouse as it’s very popular.
Tips from a local
If the weather is a bit rubbish, head up to Barter Books which is an old Victorian train station converted into the most fabulous bookstore in Alnwick. Every book you can possibly imagine is here, even some very valuable first additions on display. They have a really lovely café converted from the old waiting rooms in the station if you wanted a nibble and something hot to drink. You can bring old books into Barter Books and exchange them for credits so you can buy something new (or old!) to take home. Pick a good book and get settled in front of one of their many open fires. Dogs and snoozing welcome!
Jan and Graham
Owners of Dove Cottage
We asked Jan and Graham what they love most about Dove Cottage…
“Dove Cottage, along with its sister properties Bumblebee Cottage and Honeycomb Cottage, are former farm-workers’ cottages which we’ve recently renovated.
We love the quiet location and wide open spaces, but also enjoy having easy access to the beautiful villages, stunning beaches and dramatic countryside close by. It’s a treat to watch the local wildlife just outside the window and to be nestled within the slow pace of rural life. The cottages are south-facing, so it’s lovely to curl up in a cosy chair, soaking up the warming sun and dramatic light during the day and gazing at the big, starry skies at night.
Having brought this cottage back to life we now take a lot of pride and pleasure in personally preparing it for our guests to ensure that, like us, you find being here is a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.”
