What a fantastic experience this has been. First of all may we give praise for the quality and standard of decor, fixtures and fittings in this beautiful holiday cottage – it is just stunning and we have wanted for nothing. The care and attention to detail has clearly been executed in all areas, nooks and crannies! The welcome hamper was a beautiful surprise, filled with lots of scrumptious treats for us to enjoy on arrival and during our stay too – thank you!
The white company bathroom products were yet another lovely extra touch too. Earl’s Cottage has been a mixture of staying in a 5-star home with the extra touches making it feel like a 5-stay luxury boutique too!
The location of the property is another huge bonus – situated in the town centre of Alnwick with shops, pubs, Alnwick Castle which holds concerts on it’s doorstep. We have experienced no noise, it’s been so peaceful and quiet. Drive 5-miles from the cottage and you’re in the beautiful countryside or sat on stunning beaches where you are lucky if you see 5-10 people.
Once again a huge thank you – this has been the most beautiful holiday cottage we have ever stayed in by far my husband thinks it’s great. Praise again to the owners and housekeeping – be proud of what you do as you do it so well. We return home feeling fresh, relaxed and revived from our perfect holiday
Tips from a local
Have a trip to Alnwick Castle and Garden, and enjoy a spot of lunch at The Treehouse. Although not cheap to get into the attractions, the tickets do allow entry for a year so it’s an excuse to visit Northumberland again! Make sure you book up in advance at The Treehouse as it’s very popular.

If the weather is a bit rubbish, head up to Barter Books which is an old Victorian train station converted into the most fabulous bookstore, about 10 minutes’ walk from the apartment. Every book you can possibly imagine is here, even some very valuable first additions on display. They have a really lovely café converted from the old waiting rooms in the station if you wanted a nibble and something hot to drink. You can bring old books into Barter Books and exchange them for credits so you can buy something new (or old!) to take home. Pick a good book and get settled in front of one of their many open fires. Dogs and snoozing welcome!

Going to be cooking in whilst on holiday? Be sure to go to Turnbull’s butchers in the centre of Alnwick to get what you need. Not only are their meats the finest around, but they also do Asian inspired stir-frys, the BEST pork pies and other ready-made home cooked meals which are to die for. Click HERE for the website.

A Little Note from the Owners…
“We fell in love with a home that was in need of some love and tender care to bring it back to its best. We had booked a viewing the Saturday morning but we wanted to take a look at the outside that Friday night. I remember seeing the house late that December, Friday evening with snow falling. Take a minute and do what we did. Stand outside and look through the letter box. You’ll see the detail of the balustrade… we fell in love with 4 Grey Place there and then.
With the prospect of refurbishing a Grade II listed building that had an enforcement notice to remove UPVC windows that had been fitted for, at least twenty years and a roof so old it would probably have ‘nail rot’ we undertook a challenge that had stopped the house from being sold for well over a year. Well, the rest is history and that can be found in the visitors information file in the cottage.
On your first evening you’ll get a call from me or Norma, to make sure everything is OK… and we dare you not to fall in love with Earl’s Cottage.”
