Hotspur Hill House
A Charming, Romantic Old Cottage in the Heart of Alnwick
This luxury, romantic bolthole is right in the centre of historic Alnwick and is perfect for couples looking for a relaxing break away whilst discovering this interesting market town which is steeped in history. Hotspur Hill House has been recently refurbished to it’s modern standard, but with hints of rustic charm such as the wood burning stove in the stone inglenook fireplace and the exposed wood throughout the cottage.
Formerly a Victorian school house, it was then turned into a ground floor cottage and was residential for over 100 years until the current owner renovated it to now be an elegant yet cosy bolthole. Hotspur Hill House is just 1 minutes’ walk into the very centre of Alnwick town, yet tucked away on a quiet street away from the hustle and bustle. The Tanners Arms pub is just a couple of doors down, which is one of the oldest pubs in Alnwick and known for it’s traditional decor, cosy atmosphere, real ales and roaring fires.
Hotspur Hill House sleeps 2 guests in 1 bedroom and the whole cottage is incredibly spacious just for 2. There is bike storage inside the cottage and a shared courtyard too. The cottage has 3 steps up to the front door, one step from the kitchen to the lounge and 2 steps from the kitchen to the bathroom and utility room. It would be most suitable for those who cannot manage a full flight of stairs, but would benefit from the cottage being almost one-level, as the bathroom is a wet room ‘style’. No pets in Hotspur Hill House.
This luxury holiday cottage has just 1 bedroom and sleeps 2 guests. A baby can be accommodated and there is a travel cot and highchair available for use if you would like it.
This cottage is deceptively spacious and has a large open plan living area, with a huge kitchen just for 2, dining area and lounge with a wood burning stove too. There is an internal wood store which can also be used as bike storage. This also leads out to the shared courtyard with the holiday home above, and there are a table and chairs provided which is kept indoors in the winter.
There is a handy utility room and wet-room style shower room, internal hallway and large bedroom. Hotspur Hill House is pet-free so no dogs unfortunately. It also has Wi-Fi as standard.
The front door can be accessed up 3 steps from the main street path and you enter straight into the internal hallway. Here there is plenty of space for storing coats and shoes. This leads straight into the open plan living area.
Although open plan to the rest of the living area, the kitchen is very large for just 2 people with ample work surface space. It contains all of the usual expected appliances such as a fridge, freezer, dual fuel cooker, ceramic hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and dishwasher.
Open plan to the kitchen, the lounge is lovely and spacious with large arched windows on 2 elevations letting in plenty of natural daylight. The large corner sofa seating up to 4 guests. This is focused around the wood-burning stove that comes with an initial supply of logs, kindling, firelighters and matches between the months of October and April. The flat screen TV has Freeview and a DVD player, and there are plenty of books and board games to enjoy. The dining table seats just 2 guests.
The one bedroom is very spacious with an original tiled Victorian-style fireplace (not available to use), a king size bed (5ft wide) and plenty of storage. The lovely large arched window lets in lots of natural daylight too. Bed linen, and towels are provided.
The bathroom is reached via 2 steps up from the kitchen area and is a wet room-style. It has a rainfall shower attached with additional attachment and a shower curtain, WC, heated towel rail and wash basin. There are grab rails in the shower area and beside the WC. Complimentary toiletries are provided.
The small utility room is very handy and is just off the kitchen. You have to access the bathroom through this little room and it has an additional sink, washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as extra work surface space and the boiler.
Accessed from the lounge area is a little rear courtyard which is shared with the holiday home above. A fold-away iron table and 2 chairs are kept in the internal log store for use in the warmer months. You can also wheel bikes in via this courtyard and keep them in the internal log store which is inside the house so completely secure.
As Hotspur Hill House is in a very central spot, it doesn’t have any designated parking. Parking is on street and on a first-come-first-served basis. As the street is residential it usually isn’t difficult getting parked on this street, but not always right outside the front door.

Our ‘Coquet’ cottages are much-loved privately-owned holiday homes into which our owners have lavished much care and investment to create beautiful places for their guests to enjoy. We therefore require a cautionary Good Housekeeping Deposit to protect our owners’ property, so that if damage/breakages occur or exceptional cleaning over and above the usual changeover clean is required up to the value of the deposit, the owner can be recompensed.
At Hotspur Hill House, you have the option of paying either a £150 refundable Good Housekeeping Deposit or a smaller non-refundable £12 Deposit Waiver, which covers you to the value of £150. Please choose which option you prefer when booking. Click HERE for more information.

We have had a great week staying here. Your apartment is very well equipped with every home comfort – and more! So lovely to come home to and we especially liked the wood burning stove. The weather (although cold) has been sunny every day so we have been out and about. Alnwick is a great place and we will definitely be back for a visit. The welcome pack was so thoughtful, thanks Ben.
