We’re delighted to welcome Lilac House to our collection of luxury self-catering holiday homes around Northumberland. Lilac House is very centrally placed within Alnwick and couldn’t be better for families seeking history on their doorstep and to be centrally placed within Northumberland for reaching other attractions and country villages.

Lilac House sits proudly on beautiful Pottergate and is part of the Rivergreen development which were built in 2004. Alnwick Castle is just around the corner too, which is home to the Percy family and the Dukes of Northumberland since 1309.

Sleeping 6 guests in 4 bedrooms, Lilac House boasts contemporary modern living on 3 floors. 2 dogs are very welcome here and there’s free wifi too as well as private parking – a rarity in Alnwick!

Overview

Lilac House sleeps 6 guests in 4 bedrooms; 2 king size rooms and 2 single rooms. There is an en suite to the master bedroom and a family bathroom on the second (top) floor too. The kitchen and dining room are located on the ground floor as well as a cloakroom WC.

On the first floor you will find the cosy lounge with a pretty bay window overlooking Pottergate. There is also the master bedroom and en suite. On the second floor there are the remaining 3 bedrooms; the second double bedroom, the 2 single rooms and the family bathroom.

Lilac House welcomes 2 small-medium size dogs and has free wifi, as well as private parking for 1 car and a small enclosed patio area.

 

Entrance

Entrance into Lilac House is through the very-wide front door into the hallway with engineered timber flooring and an elegant leaded-glass skylight. This then leads to the kitchen, dining room and cloakroom WC.

 

Kitchen

The contemporary fitted kitchen looks out to the front of the house through the sash-style window and is very comprehensively equipped with solid granite surfaces and a tiled floor. In the kitchen you will find an electric oven and induction hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle, Kenwood Chef food mixer and Nespresso ‘pod’ machine. Although the dining room is just next door, there is a cafe-style table and chairs seating 2 guests for casual dining.

 

Dining Room

The dining room has double glazed French doors leading to the charming courtyard garden, which are lovely to leave open in the warmer months for an ‘al fresco’ feel. The solid oak dining table seats 6 guests and there is an additional TV in here too.

 

Cloakroom WC

There’s lots of storage in here for boots, coats and extra dry food, as well as there being a WC and wash basin. The washing machine and tumble dryer are located in here too, as well as the boiler.

 

First Floor

Stairs lead to the first floor are framed at the top by a large, sash-style window, mirroring the traditional townhouse features of nearby properties. On the first floor you will find the master bedroom, en suite and the lounge.

 

Lounge

The lounge is cosy and comfortable, and benefits from the huge bay window giving the room character and plenty of natural light. In the lounge you will find a gas fire, comfy sofas and armchairs, a Smart TV and a Bluetooth music player. There are plenty of books, board games and DVD’s for all ages.

 

Master Bedroom with en suite

The master bedroom has lots of fitted cupboards and wardrobes, so there’s plenty of space for storage. The bed is king size (5ft wide) and there is a lovely sash-style window looking out to the courtyard. Soft linens, fluffy white towels and a hair dryer are all provided.

The en suite has a large shower, WC and wash basin with a heated towel rail too. Complimentary Scottish Fine Soap toiletries are provided.

 

Second Floor

On the second floor you will find the remaining 3 bedrooms; one double room and 2 single rooms, as well as the family bathroom.

 

Double Bedroom

The second double bedroom has another king size bed (5ft wide) and lots of storage. Soft linens, fluffy white towels and a hair dryer are all provided.

 

First Single Bedroom

This cute room looks out to the back of the house, over the courtyard and to the interesting buildings behind the main street. The single bed is 3ft wide and luxury linens and fluffy towels are provided.

 

Second Single Bedroom

This equally lovely room is located at the front of the house overlooking pretty Pottergate and has a single-sized bed (3ft wide), luxury linens and fluffy white towels are provided.

 

Family Bathroom

The family bathroom is shared between the 3 bedrooms on the top floor and houses a shower over the bath, WC, wash hand basin and heated towel. Complimentary Scottish Fine Soap toiletries are provided.

 

Courtyard Garden

The pretty courtyard is accessed from the dining room through double-glazed French doors. It has a cafe-style table and chairs seating 2 guests and access out to the parking area through a gate.

 

Parking

There is private parking for 1 car at the rear of the property in a shared residents-only car park. Additional parking is in front of the property on Pottergate but you will need a disc, and further long-stay free parking is 100 yards from the property. There are no parking charges in Alnwick.

There is private parking for 1 car at Lilac House. Additional public parking is in front of the house in a ‘disc’ zone. So whilst there are no charges for parking anywhere in Alnwick, you will need a parking disc. Alternatively, free long-stay parking is 100 yards from the property.

Accessibility
Accommodation on 3 floors makes it unsuitable to those who may struggle with stairs. The kitchen and dining room is on the ground floor; master bedroom and lounge on the first floor; 2 x single rooms, second double room and family bathroom on the second floor.

Lilac House is perfectly positioned within a historical part of Alnwick with everything at your fingertips; great restaurants, boutique shops, pubs, cafes, Alnwick Castle, walks around the castle grounds and more!

The Barbican to Alnwick Castle (one of the entrances) is just around the corner, no more than 3-4 minutes on foot. When you show your Coquet Cottages key fob attached to your keys you receive 15% discount too. Hulne Park is one of Alnwick’s popular walks around the castle grounds where there are trails from 1-7 miles to follow. No dogs allowed unfortunately.

Alnwick Gardens can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot and is a really pleasant walk through the town. The town contains lots of gorgeous boutique shops including a great local butchers, Trotters family bakers – but no candlestick maker! There’s a really good selection of places to eat in Alnwick too, which are all walking distance from the house.

All of Northumberland coastal and country villages are easy to reach from Alnwick, such as Warkworth, Alnmouth, Beadnell, Bamburgh, Seahouses, Rothbury and Corbridge. Lilac Cottage is in the most desirable area to be based.

Tips from a local

If the weather is a bit rubbish, head up to Barter Books in Alnwick, an old Victorian train station converted into the most fabulous bookstore. A most welcoming place to visit, you’ll have to tear yourself away after settling down in a cosy armchair in front of their roaring fire!  Every book you can imagine is here, of all genres and for all ages, even some very valuable first additions are on display. They have a really lovely café converted from the old waiting rooms in the station if you wanted a nibble and something hot to drink and you’re welcome to look through a book while you enjoy a coffee. You can bring old books into Barter Books and exchange them for credits so you can buy something new (or old!) to take home.  Children, dogs and snoozing welcome!

Tips from a local

Just a few minutes’ walk around the corner from Lilac House, stand the beautiful and incredibly well-preserved Alnwick Castle. Still inhabited by the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, and made world famous for it’s appearances in Downton Abbey, Transformers and of course Harry Potter, there really is something for everyone here. The Library and State Rooms are jaw-droppingly stunning. There are eerie story-telling tours through the dark cellars, broomstick flying lessons for the Harry Potter fans, and guided tours around the castle and grounds if you’d like to learn more about the history of the castle as you go.

Tips from a local

Take a short drive to the coast! Within 10 minutes, you can reach the stunning and vast beach of Alnmouth. The Village itself is very charming with gorgeous little cafes, shops and art galleries, and the panoramic view of the beach, dunes and Coquet Island from the end of the main street is breath-taking.

I took it all for granted, until I moved away from the area and started to really appreciate what a special place it is. My wife fell in love with the area when I brought her here for holidays too! We decided that this is where we should spend our retirement years, and Alnwick was the perfect choice for somewhere to live. A short stroll from the front door of Lilac House takes us to the front door of one of the UK’s greatest castles, as well as to lively pubs and quirky tearooms. In 15 minutes we can be on the beach at Alnmouth. The boy has returned!”
