A Charming Characterful Cottage in the Historic Market Town of Alnwick
Percy House is a gorgeous, historic listed stone cottage just outside the centre of the buzzing market town of Alnwick. Sleeping just 3, the cottage is romantic for 2 yet still spacious and adequate for 3 guests. Newly refurbished, the cottage has a contemporary twist yet still retains the original features such as the impressive fireplace, exposed stone wall and original stair case.
Percy House is ideal in every season, from being central in the summer to the shops, pubs, restaurants and of course within walking distance of Alnwick Castle and the Alnwick Garden, to cosying up in the winter around the original wood-burning stove.
No pets are permitted here, and there is free WiFi. The location is excellent for exploring everything to do in Alnwick, as well as being in the gateway for the coast and the stunning countryside.
Gorgeous Percy House is situated in an ideal position in the market town of Alnwick. A stone’s throw from the centre yet away from the hustle and bustle of the main street. The cottage sleeps 3 guests in 2 bedrooms; both doubles. There is 1 bathroom with a separate shower and roll-top bath, a small courtyard area shared with the cottage next door and a wood-burning stove in the lounge.
Percy House regrettably doesn’t allow dogs, has free WiFi and has on-street parking.
2 steps lead up to the front door, which opens straight into the cosy lounge.
During the renovation of the cottage the owners have carefully made sure the original features of the property are kept, such as the exposed staircase, original stone wall and feature stone archway that leads into the dining kitchen. The ornate fireplace houses a wood-burning stove (with an initial supply of logs and kindling between the months of October-April), a large Smart TV with access to Netflix, a large sofa and separate armchair. The lounge is cosy with a large original sash window and shutters.
The brand new kitchen is light and airy, with plenty of surface space for cooking and preparing. In the kitchen you’ll find a fridge/freezer, electric oven and hob, toaster, kettle, microwave, Lavazza coffee machine, dishwasher and washer/dryer. French doors lead to the small shared courtyard and let in a lovely stream of natural light.
The dining table seats 4 and sits in the corner framed by a huge original sash window.
A pretty room with a large original sash window and shutters, king size bed (5ft wide), large built-in wardrobe and wall-mounted Smart TV. Luxury linens and fluffy towels provided. Hairdryer.
A smaller room with a double size bed (4ft 6″ wide) suitable for 1 guest. This bedroom has the same size sash window with original shutters, looking over the church grounds. There is also a large, wall-mounted Smart TV and large wardrobe. Luxury linens and fluffy towels provided, as well as a hairdryer.
Beautifully fitted and equipped, the bathroom has a large frosted window, walk-in shower with rainfall head, separate roll-top bath, WC, wash basin and heated towel rail. Luxury complimentary toiletries provided.
Outside and Parking
Percy House has a cosy, private courtyard with a bench seat and some pretty plants. It’s a suntrap in the evenings and can be accessed from the kitchen via the French Doors. It’s lovely having the doors open on a warm day/evening whilst preparing dinner.
Parking is on-street. There are no parking charges.

The cosy patio is a sun trap, especially in the evenings. Pretty plants and a bench seat are provided for a relaxed atmosphere.
There is no BBQ provided at Percy House and due to it’s close proximity to other properties it is not appropriate to use one at the property.

An initial supply of logs are provided between October and April. More can be purchased from the owner upon arrival.

A Northumbrian Welcome Hamper is provided, which includes some lovely basics including locally-baked bread, butter, milk, tea, coffee and wine! Luxury complimentary toiletries are included. A bespoke property and local area guide tells you all you need to know to make the most of your stay. Picnic basket and blanket provided for use. Free Wi-Fi for cosy nights in.
Fridge/freezer, electric fan oven and electric hob, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, Lavazza coffee machine with small supply of pods supplied. Washer/dryer, iron, ironing board, clothes airer and vacuum. Hairdryer and books provided. WiFi.
Large Smart TV’s in the lounge and both bedrooms with access to Netflix. Free Wi-Fi.
There are 2 steps up to the front door, an additional step from the threshold into the lounge and the property is on 2 floors. The shower is level access.
There is no storage for bikes at Percy House.
Parking is on-street.
Care of the Property
Our ‘Coquet’ cottages are much-loved privately-owned holiday homes into which our owners have lavished much care and investment to create beautiful places for their guests to enjoy. We therefore require a cautionary Good Housekeeping Deposit to protect our owners’ property, so that if damage/breakages occur or exceptional cleaning over and above the usual changeover clean is required up to the value of the deposit, the owner can be recompensed.
You have the option of paying either a £150 refundable Good Housekeeping Deposit or a smaller non-refundable £12 Deposit Waiver, which covers you to the value of £150. Please choose which option you prefer when booking. Click HERE for more information.

Map & Local Area
Percy House is very well located within the historical and interesting market town of Alnwick. Just a few minutes easy stroll from the main street, Prudhoe Street is in a pretty location opposite the impressive church of St. Paul’s. It goes without saying there are an abundance of great independent and national shops in Alnwick town, including The Bakehouse Gallery just a few yards from your front door.
The Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle can be reached very easily on foot and Barter Books is 5 minutes walk away too. Hulne Park is the park open to the public that wraps around Alnwick Castle and has some great routes to follow. You can reach it in 10 minutes on foot and is very interesting to wander around (no dogs permitted).
Reaching the coast is very accessible too; within 10 minutes south you’ll reach the arty village of Alnmouth and the 7 mile stretch of golden sandy beach which leads from the end of the main street. The Cheviots and the Ingram Valley can be reached in around 30 minutes in the car with a beautiful drive to go with it.
All in all, Percy House is an excellent base in all seasons for either enjoying exploring the county or parking the car for a few days and getting out and about on foot.

Afternoon G & Tea at The Cookie Jar
Recently refurbished to a beautiful standard, The Cookie Jar is a new restaurant, bar and hotel in the centre of Alnwick. Their Afternoon G&Tea is highly rated by locals and must be booked in advance.
Their beautiful gardens are a relaxing retreat in the centre of the town and the experience is sure to be a real treat!

Walk around Hulne Park
Hulne Park is the beautiful outer grounds of Alnwick Castle that are open to the public to wander round. The trails range from 1 mile to around 8 miles, so there are routes for all capabilities.
There are no charges to get into the park but unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed.

Alnwick Farmer’s Markets
Every Saturday the market square hosts a Farmers Market but from April to August they also host a Thursday market, which specialises in artisan local produce.
On the last Friday of every month, the marketplace hosts a monthly Farmers & Craft market encouraging local artists and a variety of food stalls. Occasionally there is music in the square and birds of prey.
We asked Michelle what made her fall in love with Percy House and Alnwick:
“Northumberland and Alnwick have always held very special memories for me. From childhood school trips to family holidays I have always found it to be a magical, beautiful place. There is so much to explore; where else could you find places like Bamburgh, Holy Island and Alnmouth all within a short drive?
I have always loved period cottages and so couldn’t resist Percy House. It needed a little bit of vision and a lot of work but I wanted to turn it into a welcoming bolt hole for other to enjoy as well as ourselves.”
