Everything was first class – the cottage was well located and beautifully fitted out and presented. The cleaning staff are to be congratulated. Excellent location – and very friendly neighbours who did not seem to resent the intrusion of ‘holiday makers’ and who were helpful and chatty to us all. I was so impressed I have already penned an email to say congrats and thank you! The cottage was very spacious and ideal for the 3 generations of family there – we never felt on top of each other and the extra lounge on the top floor provided a lovely play room for the children.read our guest book
Tips from a local
Go on a Puffin Cruise to Coquet Island, sailing from Amble harbour. The island is home to over 40,000 nesting sea birds such as Puffins, Roseate Terns, Sandwich Terns, Arctic Terns, Kittiwakes and Eider Ducks which all nest in the summer months. A grey seal colony also lives on the island all year round and can be seen on the east side of the island. Dave Gray’s boat trips are the best and have been operating for decades.

Take advantage of the fabulous Northumberland Coastline and have a go at surfing at Druridge Bay or Amble! Northside Surf School offer individual and group lessons for all ages and abilities. It’s a great day out for a family and a fun way of making memories with a group of friends during your holiday. Jon is a fully trained lifeguard and surfing coach, and ensures everyone’s safety and enjoyment throughout the day – you won’t be disappointed!
Tips from a local
Take a walk alongside the Coquet Estuary to visit beautiful Warkworth village and Bertram’s Cafe. Just over a mile easy stroll from Amble, this cosy, welcoming and dog-friendly Bistro Cafe in the centre of the village is perfect for a hot chocolate by the fire through the winter months, or for a glass of wine out in the sun-trap patio garden. The menu is fantastic with all dishes made on site, or sourced locally. Breakfasts are particularly good with dishes such as crushed avocado on toast and Eggs Benedict.
John and Elaine
Owners of River View
We asked John and Elaine what made them fall in love with River View:
“We bought River View with the main intention (not yet fulfilled!) of living there ourselves. We loved the house for its award-winning up-to-date eco design and its sun-trap of a garden. We love Amble – a small working fishing port – with great beaches nearby, lots of character and a touch of old-fashioned grittiness, yet also waking up to the modern world with some wonderful eating places. Our spirits never fail to lift every time we go out on to the Braid – the open land near our house and walking along the estuary, or past the marina and harbour and along the pier, stopping maybe at the Fish Shack where they make the best ever crab sandwiches.”
