A Gorgeous New England Style Beach House in Beautiful Bamburgh
Waterford in Bamburgh is truly gorgeous, in a fantastic location close to magnificent Bamburgh Castle and just a short stroll through a dune meadow to a huge sandy beach.
All the amenities of beautiful Bamburgh village are within walking distance, including Bamburgh Castle, several restaurants, pubs, cafes, a famous award-winning butchers ‘Carter’s’ and the interesting Grace Darling Museum, depicting the life of a local heroine.
Gorgeous and vast Bamburgh beach is just a short stroll from Waterford, through the beautiful drifting dunes, sprinkled with pretty wild flowers during the summer months. The views of the castle are stunning and the panoramic view takes in The Farne Islands – just off the coast – and the iconic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle further south.
The front entrance to Waterford has a New England style veranda, leading into a hallway with storage for coats and boots. The spacious inner hallway leads to a small study with a window overlooking the dunes, perfect for catching up on emails or for essential study periods.
The rear entrance leads into a Boot Room, suitable for depositing boots and hanging coats, but also a useful place for dogs to sleep. A large dog bed and fleece is provided for the use of one dog or two small dogs to sleep together. There is a utility room, with a washing machine, tumble dryer, useful sink and walk-in shower, and a separate cloakroom with WC and wash hand basin.
Open Plan Living Area
With an elegant and distinctive beach house feel, the ground floor is very spacious with an open plan living, dining and kitchen area, providing the perfect space for socialising with friends or just relaxing with the family. New England style shutters open right up to reveal a beautiful view of the sand dunes bordering the beach.
Whilst the house is very efficiently centrally heated, the lounge area has a large contemporary real log fire, screened with glass for safety and providing a warm ambiance on cooler evenings.
There is a reading area forming part of the lounge, with two armchairs, an occasional table and a reading light. The large oak dining table overlooks the pretty garden. Full height bi-folding doors span the whole of the patio area and open right up to make the living area open plan to the landscaped garden and patio – perfect for enjoying the warmer summer months, but providing plenty of light throughout the whole year.
For Chill-out Days and Rainy Days
There is a 49″ flat screen 4k Smart TV with Freeview channels, catch-up services and Netflix, a BluRay player and Bluetooth HiFi. A selection of games for all ages, jigsaws and books of various genres suitable for all ages are also provided for your enjoyment.
The kitchen is open plan to the large living area, making the perfect space for socialising and simply enjoying family time together. Beautiful kitchen units by Neptune discretely house a whole range of essential appliances, including an electric oven and separate grill, induction hob, large fridge-freezer, drinks fridge, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, panini grill and Nespresso coffee machine (initial supply of pods provided).
The study is a great place to catch up on some work if you need to. It has a landline phone for emergencies and a laser-printer too.
Utility Room and Shower Room
The utility room is a great place for dogs to sleep at night as it’s nice and warm. It contains a washing machine, tumble dryer, shower cubicle and separate WC.
A beautiful bespoke oak staircase with a large glazed Velux ceiling window leads to 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Stair gates are available upon request for both the top and bottom of the staircase.
Master Bedroom with En Suite Shower Room
A large and very comfortable bedroom, with a luxury super-king-size bed (6ft wide), plenty of storage, dressing table and spacious en suite shower room. Flat screen TV with Freeview, Amazon Firestick and Blu-ray DVD player. Beautiful unspoiled open view of the sand dunes Towels and hairdryer provided.
The en suite shower room to the master bedroom is very spacious, with a walk-in shower, wash hand basin and WC.
A gorgeous, serene bedroom with a king size luxury bedstead (5ft wide), Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels, walk in wardrobe. Hairdryer.
A spacious room with twin single beds which are convertible to a super-king sized double bed (6ft wide) upon request. Luxury bed linen and towels.
A cosy bedroom with a single bed and a lovely view of the sand dunes. This room is comfortable for one child or adult. Upon request it can accommodate 2 children with the addition of an extra folding single bed, which is suitable for a child up to 12 yrs old. Luxury bed linen and towels provided.
A spacious family bathroom fitted in true ‘Beach House’ style, with a bath, walk in shower, WC and wash hand basin. Luxury complimentary toiletries by The White Company provided.
There are lawns to the front and rear of the house and at the rear, there is a paved and furnished patio area in front of the full height bi-folding doors, which open fully in the warmer months, opening the house up into the garden area. There is a large graveled area also to the rear, within the perimeter of the property, with gated access and private parking for up to 3 cars.
A large table and chairs provide the perfect area for dining out and 1 disposable BBQ is available for bookings between May and October.
The grounds at the rear of the house are fully enclosed with close-boarded fencing. The lawn to the front of the house borders the road with a traditional styled picket fence, but the rear garden area is enclosed with a gate, thereby considered adequate to contain children and dogs.
There is a cycle rack in the rear garden area where bikes may be secured out of general sight if you bring a chain and padlock.

Private, off-road, gated parking at the rear of the cottage is available for up to 3 cars.

Please be Aware
Mobile reception in the house and in Bamburgh generally is variable, depending upon which network you use. A house telephone is provided for emergency use only.
A basket of logs is provided for holidays taken between October and April. At other times, logs can be purchased in the village or at most local filling stations.
Care of the Property
Our ‘Coquet’ cottages are much-loved privately-owned holiday homes into which our owners have lavished much care and investment to create beautiful places for their guests to enjoy. We therefore require a cautionary Good Housekeeping Deposit to protect our owners’ property, so that if damage/breakages occur or exceptional cleaning over and above the usual changeover clean is required up to the value of the deposit, the owner can be recompensed.
You have the option of paying either a £250 refundable Good Housekeeping Deposit or a smaller non-refundable £46 Deposit Waiver, which covers you to the value of £250. Please choose which option you prefer when booking. Click HERE for more information.

Map & Local Area
Bamburgh is a gorgeous village, with dog-friendly pubs, pretty shops and the divine ‘Carter’s’ the butchers, famous for their ‘Bamburgh Banger’.
As well as the famous castle, there is also the huge beach which is dog friendly all year round. During the spring and summer months, you can watch the village cricketers play their matches against rival villages on the expansive bowling green, dominated by the castle in the background. Waterford is just opposite the beach and only 7-10 minutes on foot to the main street of Bamburgh.
Seahouses is just 3 miles south, where you can catch a boat trip over to the Farne Islands and watch the daily catch brought into the harbour, then treat yourself to some of the best and freshest fish and chips in the country!
Holy Island is to the north (about 20 mins in the car) where you can visit Lindisfarne by driving over the causeway to experience this history-rich island. Watch out for those tide times though!

Tips from a local
Dine at The Potted Lobster for a real coastal village experience. Owned and run by renowed local chef Richard Simm. With the catch of the day from Seahouses, prepared beautifully and straight onto your plate – Seafood doesn’t get much fresher than this! The restaurant has a great atmosphere, and is incredibly popular with locals and holiday makers alike so be sure to book in advance!
Tips from a local
Take a boat tour out to the Farne Islands with Billy Shiel’s boat trips. This is a must when you come to Northumberland, especially as you are so close to Seahouses. The tours leave from Seahouses harbour and sail all around the Farne Islands. Some stop at the islands where you can get off the boat and have a tour by one of the local rangers, and each boat tour differs depending on the season and what is nesting/breeding around the island. Billy Shiel’s tours are the largest operator in the town, still ran by all the members of the Shiel family who are the most knowledgeable about the area. Make sure you book in advance as they are incredibly popular, especially after being featured on the popular TV series with Robson Green ‘Tales from Northumberland’!
Tips from a local
Take a walk out from the cottage and head over the dunes to stunning Bamburgh Beach and absorb the breathtaking views of the castle, nestled in the dunes on the headlands. This place is a photographer’s dream, especially if you get out there early enough to catch a sunrise!

A Little Note from the Owners…
We are lucky to live on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and love the countryside around us, but ever since our student days in Newcastle, the Northumberland Coast has always been particularly special to us.
We’ve had many years of visiting, and more recently have enjoyed some fantastic cottage holidays, and fallen in love with what Northumberland has to offer; open space, dramatic castles, history, wildlife and miles of sandy beaches, and as dog owners there’s a great choice of friendly venues and walking too.
In 2018 we were lucky enough to buy Waterford, a beautiful architect-designed beach house, looking out over the Bamburgh Dunes. This fulfils a dream of having a holiday home set in this stunning location, and it’s our hope that our guests enjoy being here as much as we do.
