Good Housekeeping Waiver/Deposit
All of Coquet Cottages’ privately-owned luxury holiday homes have been furnished and equipped with much love, pride, attention to detail and expense, to ensure you have a most enjoyable holiday. As a condition of your booking you’re required to take good care of the property you’re staying in, for you and your party to leave it in a clean and tidy condition with no breakages, damage or soiling other than from the usual level of usage during the holiday period.
At several of our cottages we require our guests to pay either a Good Housekeeping Deposit (refundable), or alternatively a lower Good Housekeeping Waiver (non-refundable). Whilst you are responsible for the care of the property during your stay, this will provide cover up to the value of the Deposit in the event of any damage, breakages or extra cleaning necessary. Please ensure you read our booking conditions.
Our owners understand that accidents do happen, therefore usually don’t seek recompense for minor damages, which we class as any damages/breakages or extra cleaning that costs no more than £25 to repair/replace or clean. We do ask that you notify us or the owner as soon as possible if any damages or breakages have occurred so these can be remedied as soon as possible in time for the next guests’ arrival.
You have a choice of whether to pay a Good Housekeeping Waiver or a Good Housekeeping Deposit:
Good Housekeeping Waiver
This is the most popular option with our guests. Where you opt on the Booking Form to pay the Waiver, the Good Housekeeping Deposit is not payable. A waiver is charged on a sliding scale dependent upon the size of the property, as follows:
- Sleeps 2-3 – £12
- Sleeps 4 – £24
- Sleeps 5-6 – £34
- Sleeps 7-11 – £46
- Sleeps 12+ – £54
The Waiver amount is non-refundable, but offers peace of mind during your stay and covers you to the amount of the Good Housekeeping Deposit for the property being rented. If you book online you will have the option to choose which you would prefer. If you select the waiver, this will be added to your booking once it is processed. The cost will then either be added to your final balance payment or, if you have already paid in full, we will send an invoice for payment. If you book over the phone, we add the waiver to your final balance payment. If you are due to pay for your holiday in full – if your holiday commences in less than 8 weeks time – we will take the payment altogether with the cost of your accommodation.

Good Housekeeping Deposit
The Good Housekeeping Deposit is dependent upon the size of the property, as follows. Where you opt on the Booking Form to pay the Good Housekeeping Deposit, the Good Housekeeping Waiver is not payable.
- Sleeps 2-4 £150*
- Sleeps 5-7 £200
- Sleeps 8-12 £250
- Sleeps more than 12 – see property webpage
* with the exception of Curlew Cottage, which is £200
It is 100% refundable provided no damage, loss or additional cleaning (as mentioned above) occurs during your stay. Unlike the waiver, this deposit is payable a few days before you are due to arrive on holiday. We will contact you to arrange this by telephone.
Should there be no damages/breakages or excess cleaning, you will receive a refund of the deposit under these terms within 14 days of your departure.
If costs are incurred by the owner of the property as a result of your stay that are over and above the usual changeover cleaning and linen change, as outlined above, an amount equal to those costs will be deducted from the Good Housekeeping Deposit. Where such costs are in excess of the value of the Good Housekeeping Deposit for the property, the excess is required to be paid directly to the owner of the property or to Coquet Cottages (for forwarding to the owners) within 14 days of being notified of the excess.
If the property is left in a clean and tidy condition with no extra cleaning required, damage or loss, then your Good Housekeeping Deposit will be returned in full within 14 days of your departure.
