Wow! This has been just what we needed. A very relaxing and peaceful weekend. Great views on an evening with a glass of red was our highlight before settling own on the sofa’s. Lovely walks along the coastline and visiting surrounding towns. Alnwick is our favourite as it’s where we got married, so it was lovely to see The Treehouse in it’s Autumn form. The boathouse restaurant is a must if you are a massive “Sea Foodie” with local fresh produce. The better half tried lobster for her first time. The apartment is so relaxing and beautifully decorated. A truly magical place.Escape the ordinary read our guest book
Tips from a local
Take advantage of the excellent dining options in Amble. This small but lively town has a number of fantastic restaurants with excellent menus. In particular the seafood in Amble is spectacular as it is caught locally so is as fresh as it comes! Your spoiled for choice with Jasper’s, The Old Boat House, The Fish Shack, Sea and Soil, Taj Mahal, and the town’s first formal restaurant Zecca. Just be sure to book as all of the above get pretty busy with locals and holiday makers alike.
Tips from a local
Go on a Puffin Cruise to Coquet Island, sailing from Amble dock. The island is home to over 40,000 nesting sea birds such as Puffins, Roseate Terns, Sandwich Terns, Arctic Terns, Kittiwakes and Eider Ducks which all nest in the summer months. A grey seal colony also stays at the island all year round can be seen on the east side of the island. Dave Grey’s boat trips are the best and have been operating for the longest.
Tips from a local
Take a walk from Amble, along the estuary to the medieval village of Warkworth, and continue on to The Mill Walk around the castle, along the river and back to Amble. With wildlife to spot along the way (in particular the herons often perched along the far side of the River Coquet) and great views of the castle from all angles, this walk is stunning all year round. If you’d like a halfway break to warm up be sure to stop by Bertram’s Bistro Cafe at the bottom of Warkworth main street.
Owner of Breakwater
A Little Note from the Owner…
“I have been visiting Amble since I was a baby… 47 years later I still come up all year round!
I have a disabled daughter and the shack in the sand dunes which we used for all these years was getting too tricky. My other daughter is 8 and loves shopping in the pods and markets in Amble so we started looking for a proper holiday home with all the mod-cons. When we saw the Coble Quay apartments the views from them blew us away. We wanted to create a tranquil space where the whole family could find a corner to relax. An interior designer created that feeling for us – she did such a brilliant job.
We love to pop in and out of the village without having to load up a car. There are so many good foodie places in and around the area and Barter Books in Alnwick is a must do every trip. We love Breakwater, we feel like we can breathe when we are up there. Everything else just melts away. Everyone relaxes.”
