Nestled between the Northumbrian coast and the Cheviot Hills, this five-star rural holiday cottage provides idyllic surroundings for a tranquil couple’s retreat. Within 7 miles, you can be strolling on a quiet beach or accessing the causeway on your way to Holy Island with its striking castle. Set off on a hike into the Cheviots, followed by a whiskey tasting tour at Ad Gefrin distillery in Wooler. Why not visit Chillingham Castle and its majestic wild cattle? Or explore Ford and Etal with its working corn mill, steam train, heavy horse centre and Lady Waterford Hall. Bamburgh lies 11.5 miles away, where you can visit the iconic castle. Berwick upon Tweed (13 miles) is England’s most northerly town, where you can walk the Elizabethan walls or follow the Lowrey trail. Within 1 mile of the cottage, explore the Kyloe Woods and Holburn Moss or walk to St Cuthberts cave.

Beautifully styled and immaculately finished, this holiday cottage has been converted with care and attention from the former stable block for the mill. Follow the long drive and cross the bridge, step inside to the light flooded lounge/kitchen/diner which sets a warm sociable tone. Light cabinets, high ceilings and original beams compliment colourful artworks and accents throughout. Prepare a romantic meal for two in the well-appointed kitchen and sit down to dine together at the table. Unwind on the sofa in front of the Smart TV or while away the hours playing board games whilst listening to music on the Bluetooth speaker. As night falls, retreat to the king-size bedroom. Decorated in soft tones with romantic touches and luxury linens, this spacious room is filled with light while blackout blinds and curtains ensure a restful night’s sleep. You could, of course, leave the skylight blind open and gaze at the stars as you lie in bed. The gleaming en-suite bathroom awaits with a luxurious free-standing roll-top bath with shower over it.

Step outside, where you will find a small lawned seating area adjacent to the cottage, where you can enjoy a drink while listening to the birdsong and watching the wildlife pass you by. Look out for pheasants, partridge, hares, red squirrels and deer. Explore the wider grounds which are beautifully maintained with lush greenery, small woodland, mature flower beds and fruit trees. Meet the friendly sheep and chickens. See the changes throughout the seasons from the thousands of snowdrops in spring to the cornflowers lining the riverbank in summer or pick fruit from the trees. Cross the bridge onto the lush lawn where you will find further seating and enjoy sitting next to the burn, soaking up and afternoon sun. There are further seating areas within the grounds for guests to enjoy. At night stargaze to your hearts content, you may even see the Aurora Borealis. Private parking for one car is available on site.

Ive been to this location twice. And I plan to go again and again. Its a super location, steeped in history, with beautiful grounds and lots of wildlife, birdsong, and the wonderful sound of a rippling beck only a few steps away from the cottage. Excellent cottage which fulfilled all of our expectations. Ideal picturesque location to explore surrounding areas including Cheviots and Coast. Good local walks accessible from the cottage where the peaceful roads to and from are littered with Pheasants, Hares and Partridges.

Beautiful little cottage, very well appointed. In a lovely rural location, and yet an easy drive to the numerous local attractions, and coastal walks, as well as walks from the door step.

What a splendid retreat from the hustle and bustle. Very attentive and welcoming, but not intrusive hosts, Alan and Christine have built a delightful cottage for two (a slightly larger one across the courtyard sleeps more people). The cottage is very well provisioned, from the welcome pack, to the living room and bedroom. The grounds are refreshingRead more and beautifully maintained by Doug (with a bit of help from Alan and the chickens). All in all one of the most relaxing places weve stayed in for a long time. What sets this apart as well is thankfully that no dogs or other pets are permitted. It is getting more difficult to find these locations on Coquet Cottages website and hopefully no more will be added to the 80% that allow dogs. Hide

This is our second visit to Horseshoe Cottage, we enjoyed it so much last year, we decided to return again. The cottage is the perfect spot, to get away from it all. After a very long drive, arriving at this location is heaven. The location is extremely tranquil and you start to unwind the moment you arrive. The owners have thought of everything inRead more this property, even down to providing the bedside cabinets with a torch each, just in case it should be needed. The place is absolutely spotless, helped by the fact that no pets are allowed, which for us is perfect and getting harder to find. The wonderful owners are on site should you need anything, and are extremely helpful. We cannot praise Horseshoe Cottage highly enough. We would highly recommend this property after spending 2 weeks here, 2 years on the trot. Hide
