Lane End Cottage in Warkworth

Relax in this Riverside Boutique-style Bolthole

Lane End Cottage in Warkworth is a sensitively restored 19th century cottage, located next to the riverbank with river views from most of the windows. An abundance of wildlife can be seen from the cottage or from a seat on the riverbank next to the cottage. Seals at high tide, herons, foxes, swans and ducks, salmon leaping, returning terns and kingfishers can be seen.

Many of our guests take a bottle of wine and glasses and sit on the riverbank just outside the cottage on balmy summer evenings before strolling to one of Warkworth‘s lovely restaurants and pubs for a bite to eat.  Beautifully furnished and very well equipped.

Our second time in Coquet Cottages – first time in Lane End. We have enjoyed it so much, we nearly took up squatters rights! Thank you Julie for such a lovely, comfortable, clean cottage to spend a week in. The decor is great and we LOVE the sofa! Thank you for the wine and the cake – scrumptious! Hope to stay again before too long.

Tips from a local

On a fine day, have a walk along to Amble alongside the estuary and you’re bound to see some interesting wildlife along the river including seals at high tide. Cut though the boatyard to get to the harbour front, where you will find the harbour village (a collection of little ‘pop up’ style shops), Spurelli’s ice cream parlour, The Old Boathouse restaurant, The Fish Shack and The Fat Mermaid Tapas and Deli Bar. You’ll be spoilt for choice, perfect after a wander around the interesting Sunday harbour local market.

Tips from a local

When it’s chilly outside and you need an afternoon ‘pick-me-up’, pop along to Cabosse, the French Chocolatiere in the village and ask for their signature hot chocolate.  Louise Frederique – the owner – melts her handmade chocolate into hot milk, to create the silkiest, creamiest, richest hot chocolate you will have ever had, it’s unforgettable!

Tips from a local

Fancy a short walk around the village?  Start at the Mill Walk right from the front door of Lane End Cottage.  With a dog or not, this is a very pretty route that only takes about 30-35 minutes. Follow the river from the door and it takes you along a beautiful walk along the River Coquet, eventually ending up at the clearing where The Hermitage is located (see more on our Warkworth page). We have spotted deer here a few times, as well as lots of other wildlife along the riverbank.

Julie Ringland

Owner of Lane End Cottage

We asked Julie what she loves about Lane End Cottage:

“Lane End Cottage was our very first holiday cottage so holds a special place in our hearts, with many wonderful memories of special times spent there with our family, and my late father used to love to join us there for dinner as he lived in Hotspur Cottage just yards away.

I especially love the serene views of the pretty River Coquet from the bedroom and bathroom – spotting the occasional seal or otter playing!  We love to walk along the beach till our legs ache and return to the village for Bertrams’ signature Cullen Skink soup before returning to the cottage to flop in the huge comfy sofa in front of the wood burning stove to watch a movie.  We also make good use of the great pubs and restaurants in the village – just yards from the cottage it’s lovely to forget about the car for a while!

We’ve furnished and decorated the cottage to our own tastes and level of comfort and it gives us no end of pleasure to be able to share this with our guests and hear of happy memories being created with their stay at this lovely little cottage.  We hope you enjoy it too!”
