Lost Lobster Cottage
A Romantic Retreat in the Pretty Coastal Village of Embleton
Lost Lobster Cottage is a traditional village home, brimming with character which overlooks the Dene – a quiet open space in the heart of the quaint coastal village of Embleton. This gorgeous cottage has been completely renovated, stripped back to the bare stone and lovingly restored back to its original form – with all the modern luxuries, of course!
Lost Lobster Cottage is situated in a central part of the pretty little village of Embleton, just a few minutes walk from beautiful Embleton beach (16 minutes to be exact!). There’s a choice of 3 great pubs in the village – all with restaurants – all of which serve good food, as well as a village store for essentials. Embleton is on the Coastal Route which leads north to Low Newton, Beadnell, Seahouses and Bamburgh, or south down to Boulmer, Craster, Alnmouth and Warkworth. The village is very central for exploring all of the quaint villages on our stunning coastline, as well as in land to Alnwick and beyond.
The cottage sleeps 4 guests and welcomes up to 3 dogs. There’s private parking, a large enclosed garden and pretty views over the Dene for sunny days and balmy evenings. You can even help yourself to apples from the blooming apple tree in the garden! It has a wood burning stove in the lounge (of course!) and a fabulous claw foot roll-top bath in the Victorian-inspired bathroom, for cosy, romantic nights in. Lost Lobster Cottage is a truly gorgeous escape in a beautiful Northumbrian village setting.
Lost Lobster Cottage sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms; 1 king size room and 1 twin bedroom that can be converted into a super king. There’s 1 bathroom with a claw-foot roll-top bath with a shower over. The lounge has a wood burning stove and super-comfy, stylish sofas with the usual mod-cons. The dining kitchen has dual aspect original sash windows with a dining table seating up to 5 guests.
The garden is large, lawned, furnished and enclosed with a 4ft fence. The cottage is semi-detached and in a quiet area in the village. The position of the cottage makes the garden very private, only looking onto the Dene which is the historical green patch in the centre of the village. There’s a private parking for 1 car and additional parking on the roadside if desired. 3 dogs are very welcome at Lost Lobster Cottage and free WiFi is throughout the house.
Enter into the porch that leads directly into the lounge or kitchen. You can leave wet wellies or muddy boots here to dry.
The kitchen has been beautifully restored and has dual aspect windows, one of which looks out to the grassy Dene. The kitchen has all integrated Bosch appliances, including a fridge, freezer, hob, electric fan oven, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, Nespresso-compatible coffee machine (initial supply of pods provided), double sink and mixer tap. The washing machine is in the laundry room. The kitchen is a lovely warm room for dogs to sleep at night too.
The dining table seats 4 guests.
The gorgeous, cosy lounge also has windows looking out over the garden out to the Dene. Focusing on the wood burning stove in the inglenook fireplace (an initial supply of logs provided between October and April), the lounge has comfy, stylish sofas, an Ultra HD 4k Smart TV with access to Netflix (with your own account) and a Bluetooth wireless speaker. There’s plenty of board games for all ages and a lovely rug in front of the fire for tired dogs to curl up in front of after a day on the beach.
The laundry room is a great place for dogs to dry off and to keep wet coats and muddy boats. It houses the washing machine and has a drying rack too.
The downstairs cloakroom has a WC, wash hand basin and a towel rail.
Upstairs you will find the master bedroom, twin/super king room and the grand bathroom too.
This pretty room has a king size bed (5ft wide) with a 3000 pocket sprung mattress, wardrobe and drawer space. Original sash windows look onto the Dene, fluffy towels and luxury linens are provided as well as a hairdryer. Bathrobes are available on request for adult guests.
Twin/Super king Bedroom
This equally spacious bedroom offers twin single beds (3ft wide) and the option to convert these into a super king size (6ft wide) if you would prefer. There is limited hanging space but plenty of drawer space. Fluffy towels and luxury linens are provided as well as a hairdryer. This bedroom has the same peaceful view over the Dene, which is idyllic to wake up to every morning. Bathrobes are available on request for adult guests.
The gorgeous, Victorian-inspired bathroom is dominated by the claw foot roll-top bath – with a shower over – which is just perfect for a good soak after a long walk on the beach. In addition to the fabulous bath tub, you will find a wash basin, WC, heated towel rail and a selection of luxury-branded complimentary toiletries. Heating is provided via underfloor heating.
The long garden is north-west facing, so certainly gets the sun the best in the later afternoon and evening. There’s a table and chairs to sit out and a secure shed for storing bikes. The garden is enclosed with a 4ft dry stone wall, split level lawns, borders and shrubs and overlooks the Embleton Dene, making a very pleasant space to sit out and enjoy the fresh air. There’s a large apple tree in the garden where you can help yourself to apples. A dry stone wall runs between the cottage and the Dene.
There are 2 private parking spaces directly outside the cottage; 1 opposite the back door and 1 on the private grassed area opposite the cottage, belonging to Lost Lobster Cottage. Access is required by other residents who live further down the lane, so it’s important guests don’t fully block access for other residents.

One of the best holiday cottages we’ve stopped in. We’ll definitely book it again for next year. Weather’s been kind to us all week. Visited all the beaches in the area – Embleton, Bamburgh, High and Low Newton.
We’ve had some lovely lunches in The Ship Inn, The Jolly Fisherman, The Lord Crewe and Bamburgh Castle Hotel (all dog friendly).
Thank you to the owners for the welcome pack and special touches for our daughter’s 20th birthday – she thoroughly enjoyed her holiday and birthday.

Tips from a local
Walk from Embleton Beach to Newton by the Sea, and stop for an icy beverage at The Ship Inn.
From Lost Lobster Cottage, you are just minutes away from one of the most beautiful stretches of Bay on the East Coast. The walk (heading North) will take you along the bay, with great views of Dunstanburgh Castle on the headlands in the distance.
When you reach The Square at Low Newton, The Ship Inn Pub and Restaurant nestled in the corner has it’s own brewery next door, with fantastic local ales to sample.
Tips from a local
Dine at The Grey’s Inn in Embleton, just a short walk from the cottage. The Grey’s is a lovely, cosy, traditional Northumbrian Pub with an hearty menu and very friendly staff. The bar is dog-friendly so you can pop in to warm up by the fire mid-walk with the pooches, and through the summer months the beer terrace out back is a little suntrap.

Drive up the A1 to the causeway and visit Holy Island. Lindisfarne Castle is looked after by National Trust, and Lindisfarne Priory is owned by English Heritage, so remember to bring your cards with you if you are a membership holder.
The Lindisfarne Brewery and gift shop is lovely and will have some tasty goodies to bring home with you for friends and family – and for yourself!
We just ask you to be extra careful with checking your tide times for the causeway, and don’t underestimate how fast that tide comes in!
Tips from a local
Take advantage of the fabulous Northumberland Coastline and have a go at surfing at Embleton Beach! Northside Surf School offer individual and group lessons for all ages and abilities. It’s a great day out for a family and a fun way of making memories with a group of friends during your holiday. Jon is a fully trained lifeguard and surfing coach, and ensures everyone’s safety and enjoyment throughout the day – you won’t be disappointed!
