Map & Local Area

Owl Cottage is nicely positioned, in a quiet residential area with little passing traffic. The beautiful, idyllic riverbank is right outside the patio, so you watch the wildlife on the patio in a morning with a hot cup of coffee. The views are really pretty looking down the Coquet estuary directly to Amble harbour, and the odd seal has even been spotted there!

The walk to the beach is very pretty, following the riverbank and will take about 15 minutes on foot. The nearest
pub is The Sun Inn, which has a great steakhouse restaurant inside too, which is just 200 yards around the corner.

Walking to the fishing port of Amble is very easy from Owl Cottage, as it’s just a mile down the estuary. Here you will find the harbour market on a Sunday, as well as a fantastic selection of delicious seafood restaurants and bistro’s, as well as the renowned Spurelli ice cream parlour serving ‘illy’ coffee too.

You can explore the location of Owl Cottage on the map below which gives you a good idea of the area.  The postcode of the property is NE65 0GY.

Tips from a local

Coming to stay in the warmer months? Get on the beach with a disposable BBQ and have a BBQ on the beach! Warkworth beach is never crowded, so you will have the beach to yourselves! The best bit to have a BBQ is the furthest south end of the beach, where it’s nice and flat but sheltered from any strong winds. Go to The Amble Butcher on Amble High Street for the best sausages.
Go on, do something different!

Tips from a local

Put away the frying pan and nip along to Bertram’s for a hearty breakfast in front of the roaring fire! From the traditional full English and local favourite Craster Kippers, to something a little lighter such as homemade porridge with fresh cream and berries or fresh fruit with granola and yoghurt, coupled with a hot mug of fresh coffee, you can reward yourself after a long walk on the beach and set yourself up for the rest of the day. The best bit? It’s dog friendly!

Tips from a local

Have a walk along to Amble along the Estuary – the walk to Amble harbour will take around 20 minutes on foot and it follows the Coquet Estuary with its abundance of wildlife. Cut through the boatyard to get to the harbour front and watch the trawlers come in. The harbour market on Sunday is interesting and you may even get some bargins! If you visit in the cooler months, be sure to where your thermals and be well-wrapped up. That North Sea air is refreshing yet bitter!

Anna and Rob

Owners of Owl Cottage

We asked Anna and Rob what they love most about Owl Cottage:

“Every time we stay at Owl Cottage we are reminded how special it is and find new things that surprise and delight us. Whether it’s the seal in the river that was determined to show off the fat salmon it had caught; the beautiful beach dunes that the kids never tire of running or rolling down; sitting by the roasting fire in the Mason’s Arms; or just watching the sun set behind the ruins of Warkworth Castle.

But our very favourite thing at Owl Cottage has got to be enjoying a lazy breakfast in the sunny kitchen, or even a coffee on the patio, then easing out the back gate to watch the River Coquet roll past.”
